Tennis: you stand behind the back line, you throw the ball in the air, and you hit it (normally over your head) toward the other side of the net. The ball must fall short of the service line on the diagonal side (right to left or left to right).
Badminton: you stand behind the service line, and you let go of the shuttle, you must hit it below your waistline and direct it over the net. The shuttle must land behind the service line on the diagonal side (right to left or left to right).
Provided that you respect those rules it's possible to vary the way you serve up to a certain point. Badminton serves vary much more than tennis serves. In tennis you can add effect to the ball, while in badminton the way you hold your raquet can vary as the region you hit your bird to.

Badminton strokes and Tennis is totally difference. Badminton use alot of wrist strength, but tennis use combination of wrist, arm lock, arm swings and strength. Serving is also different. You need to use your body movement to increase your serve speed.
I love tennis and I enjoy playing competitively. Mail me, if you have any other question.

Badminton: Use a wafting/underneath motion, try to get the ball to go over the net diagonally.
Tennis: In professional tennis, use an overhead motion, if you are a righty, start by raising the raquet over the head on the right side, strike the ball as it lowers while at the same time bringing down the raquet to the bottom left side.

hi
to answer your question.
the person who is serving stands in the box on the right and tennis, you serve on the outside.
in tennis, you serve overhand.
in badminton you have a choice with underhand or a short serve.

11.1.4 The shaft of the server's racket at the instant of hitting the shuttle shall be pointing in a downward direction to such an extent that the whole of the head of the racket is discernible below the whole of the server's hand holding the racket; so bf is right...but it doesn't mean you have to serve to just clear the service court you still can hit the shuttlecock hard with wrist above his his head if you like. good luck...bloody hard to beat a chap especially if he's tall
