This have bugged me for years. Why are there no "BLACK" Disney Cartoons? I know alot of people are probably familiar with the HBO series " HAPPILY EVER AFTER; FAIRY TALES FOR EVERY CHILD". It was a great series, but any kid could tell the difference in the quality of animation, it wasn't very good, it just didn't have a Disney budget. If only Disney felt the same way the producers of "HAPPILY EVER AFTER" did,you know, to make a FAIRY TALE FOR EVERYCHILD, well, they kinda did. Just look, they've made Characters of WHITES, NATIVE AMERICANS, ASIANS, EGYPTIANS, RUSSIANS ( white people) , PACIFIC ISLANDERS ( hawaiians, samoans), TOYS, BEARS, DEARS the list goes on, but they've never made a movie about BLACK characters. OK OK, They did try once to make a movie about AFRICA and it did great, the only thing is that there was no BLACK "PEOPLE" in it, it was LION KING. Why can't my lil
girl see a movie about an AFRICAN PRINCESS and relate to it,

The Proud Family and Song of the South has Black people in it but I think if you would have rephrased the question to why is there only one Black movie produced by Disney, then I say you have a valid question. I know you wouldn't get half of the rude answers that you received because there would be no real answer.

Disney did re-make Roger's And Hammerstein's Cinderella (live action) using black actors and actresses. Brandy was the actress who played Cinderella. I never saw it myself (I saw the original), and it is definitely child-okay material. Blockbuster should have it. Hope this helps.
But yes, I understand about the cartoons... Disney has a lot of problems with such. And they always like to make characters with either 1 parent or no parents. Granted there are a few... Good Luck!
Oh, The Jungle Book kind of gets close. ^-^

You have a very good point. I saw in a few other posts where that was one a LONG time ago.......but I think you are looking for more of a 'Disney Princess' movie. (ie Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Cinderella) Disney Princesses are a big thing for a lot of little girls, I know my daughter loves them. To be honest I never really thought of it. They make the cartoon but Penny Proud is not really a princess and its not a major movie. I really think you should write the same exact thing that you wrote to us....to the big wigs of disney.

Why "ARE" there no black Disney cartoons, not "IS". And there were many. And not only Disney. They were considered racist back in the late 60's, early 70's, and removed from circulation. If you want to blame someone, blame the film company lawyers and the NAACP. The film company lawyers are afraid of getting sued if they make a black look bad, and the NAACP is waiting in the wings for it to happen.

Hell, I will probably get sued for this answer! Well, they can have my lava lamp. It's about all I got left after three divorces. All those other groups you mention have no rabid group of lawyers waiting to get into their pocket.

And while it may not be a "Princess" movie, have you watched "Glory". At the end I was never more impressed by a group of military men, (And I spent ten years in the military myself, only getting out because of a medical.) and never more inclined to weep.

You don't see the film companies making American Heroes out of "Asians", etc., but they sure as hell show the *****. Maybe you should show her a bit of real history about her race, and leave the "fairy" stories for when she grows up and takes your dream and runs with it. Knowing full well that she can accomplish it because others of her people led the way.

Relax there, my friend......

As a former answer stated it is because they are afraid of getting harassed by the "black community". The NAACP has, in my opinion, done as much harm to the "black community" as they have good.
Plus as far as the "Princess movies" are concerned, they are drawn from folklore and fairy tales that originally came from Russian, English, and German sources. As time goes on maybe they'll make one based on an African folktale or fairytale. (I also note that you singled out Egyptians as non-Africans, so whatever floats your boat.)

Would you like it if they simply made a movie like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty (which are both steeped in "white" folklore) and threw a black woman as the lead? I doubt it.

But that is my opinion.

What do you call the " Proud Family"? Also if Disney did produce a cartoon centered on Blacks they would probably complain that it was " racist" and go crying to the Rev Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and make more of it than it is.
