All you'll need is to buy a router. They're pretty cheap. A regular (non-wireless) router shouldn't cost more than $20-30 if you look hard enough.

You just take the ethernet wire that's currently going from the modem to one of the computers, and instead have it go from the modem to the "Uplink" port on the back of the router. You then connect both computers using two ethernet cables from the other ports on the back of the router to each computer.

Most routers will have at least 4 ports, in addition to the uplink port. Be sure to get a router and not a hub or switch.

That's really all you'll need.

You will need to purchase a router. About $40 at any computer or electronic store (or Walmart). You hook the cable from the cable modem into the router. It will have several more ports where you can connect as many PCs as there are ports. Once plugged in, just run the setup CD on each computer.

If you suspect that at some point you may want to add a wireless computer or laptop, purchase a router with wireless capability. It may cost you another $5 now, but it is cheaper than replacing the whole unit six months from now.

You need a cable modem for cable internet access. Splitting a TV signal to your computer won't do anything. You will likely need to contact Comcast and subscribe to their internet service in addition to cable TV.

To your questions, no.

Get a "router" from a company like NetGear, D-Link, etc.
Hook the ethernet cable from the modem to the router.
Run an ethernet cable from the router ports to each computer.

You're done.

You need to get a router, which is what gets connected to your modem, and then can split off to many computers (including wireless if you buy a wireless router). You cannot hook up internet through USB (at least not to my current day knowledge).
