Mesopotamians were polytheists, believing in various gods. The chief god was Asher, hence being called Assyrian. They also worshiped Ishtar, the goddess of love and war--predecessor of later Aphrodite and Venus. These two gods were the main gods of the region, but had alter their names throughout the years. In the earlier BC man used to workship nature....
in various countries we had difference in concept.
Sun God, moon god etc.

In India ...they beleived that God was One but it took many forms for the beleivers to come to their rescue in that form. They also workshipped Nature
Jainsism (500 BC)
Buddhism (500-600 BC)
Hinduism (sanathana dharma) still older
Islam and christianity were brought in later by Travellers.

in egypt they were polytheist the same with india. in china, their religion was more on philosophy (confucianism & taoism)
