Without knowing your price range:
1. Can NEVER go wrong with Apple Nano/IPod
2. The new Sony players are great.
Very minimum get at least 1 gb for your niece.

That all depends on the maturity of the person. If she is realey responsible and you have money to spend buy her a nice pink Apple iPod Nano ($200.00) you can buy em' in any major retailer or at apple's iPod website www.apple.com. If she is a little young for that try Apple's iPod Shuffle, it is cool and small. It dosent have a screen and stuff but it holeds 240 songs and is only $79. If you are not into Apple look into Samsung MP3's that is the first i had most have a small non color screen but gets the job done. Hope i gave you some ideas.

I would recommend the iPod with the ease of use and the sofware that comes along with it. The new iPod Shuffle comes out to the retail world on Friday $79 and clips on anything and holds 240 songs in 1GB of Space.
Then there is the Nano and the Video iPod but that is up to you if you want to spend that much. I have the 80GB iPod Video and Love it.
Hope that Helps!
Cheers!

iPod nanos are really great, but a bit pricey. If she has a lot of music, you might have to splurge for an iPod, but I have a nano and it's not even half full yet! They work great, aren't that confusing, and easy to purchase. You can get one at Wal Mart or Target, or you can get one at www.apple.com.

Nomad Muvo, about $49 at Wal-Mart, holds alot of songs, is also radio and voice recorder. My 7 year old loves mine, I am getting her one for Christmas. My friend got rid of her I-Pod and bought one after I showed it to her.
