I'm looking for someone who has firsthand knowledge of Islamic faith, not a textbook article written by somebody who has no experience.

I can't say I'm qualified, but this is what I can think of:
Both worship one omnipotent god. In fact, they worship the same god. They both pray for mercy from that god, and they both have a strong belief that good deeds earn people a place in heaven. Islam, however, holds women in a regard that we westerners would consider "outdated", or perhaps uncivilized (I try to avoid using that word when speaking about another culture, though). Muslims believe in every prophet Christians believe in, and I think every scripture dating to the old testament.

They are both Abrahamic religions and have a common source. At the time of expansion of Islam in the 7th & 8th centuries many of the converts were formerly Christians and Jews. The expansion was into areas formerly controlled by Rome so the inhabitants were Christian. Jesus is revered as a prophet in Islam, but is not the Messiah. Muslims, like the Jews, do not believe that the Messiah has yet manifested on earth. They are both monotheistic religions.

Both believe in the old testament of the Bible, both believe in one God. Muslims believe that Jesus was a Prophet but not the son of God. Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God. Muslims believe that Mohammed was the last prophet of God, so the messages he received ( which are written in the holy book of Islam the Qu'ran) are the last contact God will ever have with people on Earth. The divinity of Jesus is the single biggest difference in my opinion which is ironically the biggest difference between Judaism and Christianity too.

I think it belongs to any human who has to overcome his and everyone elses problems. I think social reality can be enough hell at times to pressure anyone into or out of insanity. I don't see the need to extend either place to anywhere beyond our own reality in the here and now. In that everything including any religion is related.
