Best carpet cleaning methods....?

I am going to pay to have my carpets cleaned. What is your opinion on the best way/method and service? (USA)

The best is to use the steam cleaning method, as opposed to the shampooing method. Basically, the steam cleaning method uses hot water and cleaning solevant to loosen up dirt, then sucks the dirty water back out into the container. This keeps the carpeting from getting matted by pulling up on the fibers as opposed to grinding them down, which shampooing does. Also, with steam cleaning, the carpeting is rinsed with clean water, so the fibers will not be left with any cleaning residue. It's a very thorough deep-down cleaning that will leave your carpeting looking fresh and new! You can hire a professional, which I highly recommend, or rent yourself a Rinse-And-Vac and do it yourself, which basically works on the same principal. Good luck!!

I have used the rug doctor and it does a good job. But I would recommend you hire a carpet cleaning service. With a rug doctor you really need 2 people and it's really not an easy job. I think the steamer method that the profressionals use is best because it doesn't leave any soap behind in the carpet which attracts dirt and the carpet will have to be cleaned again sooner.

You're wasting your money having someone else clean them. You can do it pretty cheap following the following plan.

Use a deep/steam cleaner, but only after you've dealt with stains. Otherwise the deep cleaner might help them to set in. I bought my deep cleaner for $100 at meijer. The only way I would have spent more money is if the cleaner had a real good moving brush, but I just use a carpet sweeper to brush stains.

To save a bundle of money using the deep cleaner, don't buy expensive deep cleaner detergent. Just use the low-suds laundry detergent you already have at home! I do this every time and it works just fine.

To clean up other stains, you might have to look up the source of the stain online.

For animal stains, get enzymes that break down the odor-causing chemicals.

For red wine, mix detergent and hydrogen peroxide and soak a little. This works really really well at breaking down the tannins in red wine. Peroxide works on some other stains too.

"Spot Shot" is the best I've seen for general spots, it comes in a blue and orange bottle.

The best way, is to buy a shampooer, and do it yourself. They will come out much better than a service. They will keep adding on stuff like well they are very bad, we probably will have to do them twice, or you will need our special pretreated carpet solution etc..etc. I bought a shampooer from walmarts, and it is easy to use, and does a great job. If you possibly can, try and get a friend or neighbor to help, if you are unable to do it. Here are some that you can buy, for under $200.00 at walmarts. I hope this helps..good luck..

The best way is a truck mounted wet system. Stanley Steemer is the best. I've tried a lot of them.

i do my own but if you prefer to hire-out insist they use 2cps common household ammonia and hot water,it works better than anything you could buy at exuberant prices and makes my beige carpets beige again
