There are good people in America. For example, many people aspire to meritocracy. Sure, meritocracy is a myth as it stands now, but does that mean people shouldn't keep trying? And Americans do keep striving for a better world. Sure, we don't all agree and some people are thouroughly evil. And that's different from the rest of the world how? It's not.

Mythinformation is our greatest downfall. There is a lot of garbage noise concealing facts and truth. Manipulative psychopaths eager to dominate others work hard to consolidate power while most people are satisfied - maybe too satisfied - with their lives and don't pay much attention to these sorts of problems. This is also not much different than other countries.

One thing I learned in the UK is that, despite injustice we see from time to time in the media about the rich being able to pay their way out of trouble is that we don't see how in other countries those that cannot afford expensive lawyers are presumed guilty until proven innnocent. When you see something like that happen - like I noticed in the UK the much more exaggerated injustice of their legal system - let alone horrific garbage I've read and seen in the news about the Russian legal system - that's when you realize that the US system could be worse - a LOT worse.

Now I'm not saying by any stretch that we're perfect. For example, the uniquely American delusion of "trickle down economics" was the laughing stock of the rest of the world. We're frequently deluding ourselves that yesterday was much better than today or that the Clinton era was somehow worse than the Regan or Bush era.

We also delude ourselves into thinking we have a democracy when it's really a republic. A democracy would actually involve more direct voting. Instead we vote on a pageant and then let that person do whatever the heck they want.

Greed is seriously wrong with American culture. I'm not talking about positive greed like "I'd like to eat, so I think maybe I ought to work." I'm talking about the stupid sort of greed that is like the person that binge eats daily. If only all people ended up LOOKING like the evil in which they engaged in! How might the greedy look hideous though? America glamourizes them! Many are manipulative psychopaths that I wouldn't trust with a kitten, let alone my economy. So the economy tanked? What did you expect with so many people focused on just lining their own pockets no matter what cost someone else has to pay?

Culture? Or do you mean Society?

Culture - Creative aspects that reflect life - Art, Music, Food, Films, Books, Architecture...?
Society - How we treat each other - Religion? Laws? Education?

I'm assuming you MEANT society, since there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with Jazz, Pot Roast, The Maltese Falcon and Frank Lloyd Wright... :)

We are an idealist society, which means that the goal of our society is theoretical, a utopia if you will. It cannot exist, we will never "arrive." Therefore nothing about our society is "right." It is all "in progress" and always will be.

There are things that we do better than anywhere else on earth. There are things that are better elsewhere. I realize that is the most vacant statement of the hour, but I can't describe it any better. Go live [not visit] in some other countries and you'll agree, I think.

Start with Amsterdam! Great lesson in give and take.. :)

Mmmeh. I persist with British foreign places coverage to a pair degree, and that i watch BBC countless nights a weel. I appreciate a user-friendly quantity of British television leisure, so I even have some clues, yet to be user-friendly, i'm no longer that into it. For the checklist, i do no longer pay a great style of interest to "Southern" subculture interior the U. S., or "New England" subculture, the two.
