Im totally with you. As an adult you have the right to this. I know a fella who had a vasectomy at 24. Whats the difference. If you were from a jewish family and demanded that your son be circumsized, there would be No problem. Its probably a case of saving money. I hope you get what you want soon

I can never have children. In the incredibly rare event that I do get ever get pregnant I would not be able to carry past around three month due to a weird problem with my womb collapsing (not prolapsed, completely collapsed) which means there is no room for a baby to grow due to it's position (it keep moving too because it is collapsed). I have horrendous problems with my periods to the point my boyfriend has rushed my hospital several times because I have been literally screaming in pain and work had to call an ambulance after I passed out with the pain. However, the doctors will not give me hysterectomy or a sterilisation as I am only 26 and have not yet had kids, even though they are fully aware that I can not have them!

Dr's these days have to cover their owns backs with all these law suits going on and I think that it is only in very extreme circumstances that they will sterilise someone under 30 and it had to be even more extreme circumstances if you are childless. How would it be if you were sterilised and 5 years away you then decide that you don't want a baby after all (I know you said you won't but you truly never know). What would you do then? probably sue the doctor for taking away your choice when you were young and foolish. Poor doctor can't win.
But please don't sue your doctor. They are under enough pressure and the health service could do without another ridiculous claim on their already stretched resources.
Why don't you just get the contraception inplants in your arm and use a condom too. That way you won't get pregnant.

You can try but you will waste your money and their time...if you can get a lawyer to do it. Many doctors have their own rules and opinions about those kinds of elective decisions. One being you are too young to make a decision like that in spite of what you think and feel about it now. There are other forms of birth control. Maybe the man of your dreams will come along and want a family, a big one. Where will you be then? Suppose you have to tell him you can't. Will he still want you as a wife? Besides I know at least one women and one guy where tying the tubes didn't work any longer and guess what????
Besides why sue the doctor cuz you can't get what you want? Not his fault you don't want kids now is it. What will money do anyway in your case...it won't make you infertile will it? It is no wonder doctors are screaming about malpractice insurance cost and don't do private practice anymore...medical centers have things called "policies" like do's and don't's.

No you can't sue. A doctor can't be forced to perform a surgery that they find unethical. You could sue them later for tying your tubes without giving you ample information and time to think about it. I understand how you feel, I never, NEVER wanted children and had asked my doctor to tie my tubes, but he refused. A year later, my husband and I "accidentally" got pregnant. When my son was 13 weeks old I had my tubes tied. Now I wish I hadn't and it costs $10,000 to reverse and insurance won't pay a dime. There is no love like the love between a mother and a child. You don't have to have your tubes tied to adopt if that's what you choose to do, but someday you may meet a man that you want to have kids with. Don't make the same mistake I did.

You can either become a celibate or try using the pill. If you are willing to pay for this operation I am sure you will find a doctor to do it for you.
Without meeting you i cannot say for sure the rationale behind your mindset but you may talk to a psychologist to find out why you are dead set in favour of having your fallopian tubes tied at such a tender age when you should be celebrating and indulging in your sexuality and freedom as I assume you no longer live with your parents.

I asked to be sterilised when I was 23, and they refused. I was adamant that I would never have kids. I never played with dolls as a child, never liked barbies etc, climbed trees, mad mud pies, I was never girly at all. babies absolutely repulsed me, I never even held one when my family and friends had babies. I just found it repulsive. I was so adamant that I never ever ever wanted kids.

Well, here I am at 35 with a 4 year old, who is the most important thing in the world to me.

Everyone I know was totally shocked when I announced I was pregnant, as they all knew I hated kids and never wanted any.

Sounds corny, but I fell in love and my biological clock kicked me in the **** and my feelings just changed slowly.

Im now so glad the doctors refused to sterilise me, I now realise that at 23 I had no idea how my life was going to turn out, I felt I was absolutely correct in my convictions then, but I changed.

And so may you.

I dont think you can sue your doctor for discrimination, they are acting in your best interests as they see fit. Unless you can find someone privately who is prepared to do it, but I sincerely doubt you will.

In the meantime, use whatever method of contraception you feel comfortable with and wait it out. No doctor is going to sterilise you at 24, its a lot of money to operate, and all you have to do is use contraception. Its not your doctors responsibility at the end of the day. By all means go back when you are 35 and ask again, im sure they will oblige.

I can see you feel quite angry about this, but your doctor is doing what he feels is right, and like I said before, its not his responsibility. Its yours. You just want an easy way out, well I dont think its gonna happen. sorry! xx

You of course can sue if you can find a lawyer to take your case. However, most lawyers probably wouldn't, although there are those out there that will.

Doctors these days are sued so often that every move they make and everything they say is based upon what they should say and do if they get sued. This litigical society has created an atmosphere of fear in the medical community that actually WORSENS our health care, because a doctor won't tell us certain information if they know it might come back to bite them in the rear. Don't sue. It only does more harm to a broken system.

Sorry. You can't sue them for that. In fact, if one did tie your tube, you could probably come back and sue them 10 years down the road for doing it. They've pledged the Hippocratic oath, which says they should do no harm. In relations to that oath, tying the tubes of a 24 year old woman is doing harm.
And you are quite young. You may very well change your mind yet. Use contraceptive in the meantime.

I dunno!

If you can prove that they refused because of your age then they would perhaps counter with medical info saying that someone your age could suffer irreperable harm thus leaving them open to a malpractice suit!

Are doctors (usually private persons operating a sole proprietorship) able to be sued for discrimination? Personally I think not! Personally I think that so long as they get nothing from the government they can decide who they treat and who they do not treat! They could refuse you due to HIV which might be covered as a disability under the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (which is a Civil Rights Act!)

In short I'd say no!
