The feeling of superiority, greed, resentment or envy at the talent or potential of another person
causes discrimination most of the time.
But most likely, it is ignorance.

I think it's a very primal defensive/territorial instinct. People are naturally wary of anything different and initially perceive it as a threat - i.e. if I'm a male white cat (technically, I'm neither male or a cat, but let's assume for the sake of argument). I'm thinking 'what if the black cat breeds with my white cat and the other white cats want the black cat, too?' Then there'll be a bunch of black cats or grey cats, and there won't be any more white cats. Okay, that's a bit curly, but the point is, we have a vested interested in perpetuating the existence of whatever we are, whether or not it's logical, and whether or not there's any significant difference between a white cat or a black cat. But as humans, we have the gift of reason and the potential to overcome the instinct to shut out others who are different.

I think discrimination happens because people are somewhat afraid of what they don't understand, so we laugh and tease and sometimes horrible things.

becuase you have something the other person doesn't like, for example, skin color, or like where you live, or if you aren't from the same social status they are. it's sad that it happens, but it's a reality
