I was wondering how soon somone would have to inform everyone of a name change or if old one could be maintained to certain parties like employers for a duration and how long could that duration be?

I think the deal with changing your name is that you can have as many names as you like as long as you aren't deceiving anyone. If everyone knows you have ten names, then ten names are fine.

The problem comes with the admin, and that comes thick and fast. How is your employer supposed to pay your salary into a bank account that doesn't have the right name on it? How are you going to get on a flight if your documents don't match up with one another?

I used to know a Brazilian woman with a big long name made of about eight bits. She sometimes used one combination, sometimes another. She ended up getting arrested for stealing her own bank card!

you are entitled by law to call yourself by anything you wish.the only problem comes when they ask for proof of identity.you can change by deedpoll which involves a cost.however most forms ask if you have been known by any other name usually within the last 5 years. It is very hard to be a fogue these days

As your employer needs to insure you and pay you he should really know your new name. Because when he sent money to your bank which knows you with your new name without knowing this name...TROUBLE!
And besides, when you make the decision to change your name don't you want to tell everyone about it????
