For me:

Kid of the 70s-

Well, for starters, we didn't have to live in a "post 9/11" world. We could get on a plane w/o getting frisked & worring about the plane getting slammed.

The 70s were great for kids. We lived thru the 1st decade that gave us the blockbuster movie. (eg: Star Wars, Exorcist, Jaws, etc) That's the norm today.

The music ROCKED! Led Zeppelin, Yes, the classic rockers were still around etc..

...things were better because I think I grew during the last decade where parents weren't breathing down kids' necks about one thing or another (the '70's). Now, kids seem to be on lockdown because of crime of one sort or another, stress over getting into the right college, and the pressure to make a lot of money (and buy a lot of stuff) in the future. We could play outside until the streetlights came on, and there wasn't the competition to get into college (I only applied to one school -- a pretty good one, in fact, and got in). Kids could just be kids, and not expected to act like mini-adults.

There was less to worry about.

Four channels on the TV, so we were not overwhelmed by choices.

Open fields to go running about, as there wasn't all that much on the TV.

Crime happened in NYC or LA, not here.

The neighborhood bully only threatened to beat you up.
