I think it totally sucks and that there should be no censorship of cds or concerts . .

but I also think there should be good labelling so people have a choice to avoid explicit lyrics if they don't want them . . .

also, altho i don't like it, i can see some rules for radio broadcasts because everyone gets them .. .

Ya know, they started a new radio station here that plays a lot of 90s dance and hiphop, and frankly, some of it is just as bad or worse as what's on the radio now. I'm almost embarrassed by some of it. "Do Me Baby" ? "Wild Thing" ? "Let's Talk About Sex" ? Come on, you gotta admit those were pretty explicit, but they were on the radio an MTV all the time, and we all danced to them and sang along in junior high. How is "My Milkshake" or "It's Gettin Hot In Here" any worse than that? It's not, that's how.

I really don't think that censoring anything helps anyone over the age of about 10 or 11. Kids throughout American history have paid attention to things that were naughty for their time and they didn't grow up any more or less depraved or troubled than any other generation. It doesn't help that so many past generations ignored depravity and troubledness or swept it under the rug. There's always been teenage mothers and drugs and violence, it hasn't gotten worse, it's just gotten more attention.

Everyone in my generation HAD to have a copy of 2 Live Crew's "Nasty As They Wanna Be" which is just about the most controversial rap album in history (and is the predecessor to booty bass and crunk). We didn't in general turn into hoodlums or rapists more than anyone else.

No matter what, though, there's never an end to older people wanting to censor modern culture. Even people in my generation who grew up with 2 Live Crew and hardcore rap and sex-charged heavy metal think that for some reason the music today is awful and needs to be stopped, and that their kids can't handle mature topics as well as they did. There's no reason to believe that.

It does not make a lot of sense. When a record gets a explicit lyric label, it sells better.

It hasn't done enough. Today's youth is being poisoned by the horrible lyrics in rap and hip-hop tunes.

It's necessary. Something should not be said in music, TV, or anything.
