I have a 1 1/2 story house, what is the cheapest way the get the room upstairs livable, build the story up or a shed roof? What should I do? There is an addition tied to the roof that makes the kitchen longer I want the most living space out of my second story.

Why can you not make a liveable space in the upper floor. I live in a 1 1/2 story and we have livable space there. You just need to put the essintals...insulations, wallboard, flooring, and hvac. If you need more floor space...maybe consider doing a dormer on the front or back side so you can push out the walls of the rooms.

with all the money it's going to cost you to remodel to make your upstaires livable, you should look for a house that has all the space you need. you will never get your money back.
