It seems you almost can't buy a bad car anymore, but 'best' is highly subjective. You've already seen the Toyota and Honda crowd chime in, but let me make a small case for a domestic manufacturer...

Durable and reliable would imply a good warranty, just in case something does go wrong. Who has the best warranty? With 5 year / 100,000 mile powertrain coverage, roadside assistance and courtesy transportation, the title now belongs to GM.

I would have to say volvo. Volvo is a safe, reliable car. I have owned a volvo s80 since 2001. And i have been hit many times in the back, and the side, and it did no damage to the car! it is also very very safe. My friend was drunk, and feel asleep at the wheel of ger s40, and she crashed into a telephone pole. And she walked out with nothing on her! The car was totaled, the two front tires blew out, the pole actually tore the hood in half, and her winshield was cracked. NO EXASURATION!! so a volvo is a good car

The toyota brand rates as the most reliable in the consumer magazines. Toyotas and Hondas are both super reliable.

No such item. The best car make is what you can best afford, that you like, and fits your needs. Some people think a Caddy is best, but they drive a Chevy. That's "their" best car.
