My husband is a drunk and is verbally abusive< I know that I must leave for my and my son's safety. The problem is that I have no place to go for a long time, I know that I should get a place of my own, but how can I make him leave the house that belongs to both of us. My son is from a previous marriage. There is too much involved to speak of. Bottom line...How do I get him out of the house till I can sell the house and finalise the divorce?

you will have to go to court to prove his abberant behavior, then you will probably get a restraining order and he will be forced to move out...you can call the cops the next time he is abusive and that will get the ball rolling.

File for divorce now, get a judge to place a restraining order against your soon to be ex. Change the locks on the doors and be ready for trouble. Another solution is, after filing the divorce papers, find a local abuse shelter for women, there is one, just ask a police officer. Move in there until you feel it is safe to return to your home. Good luck sweetie, take care of your son.

You do have some choices. Family to move in with? Friend? A womens shelter (they also offer free legal help)? You do need a lawyer to help with your housing situation, and probably other things too. If you need to get out now, call a shelter. They are not scary or demeaning. They will help you long enough for you to get back on your feet financially.

Good luck and God bless!

If he is physically abusive, then you can go to court for a protective order or peace order or stay-away order, or whatever it's called in your area. You do need to live apart in order to qualify for a no-fault divorce, which is the easiest and quickest kind. If he's not physically abusive and you don't qualify for a court order, you need to talk to him and perhaps help the process along by finding a place for him to move to, maybe with friends of his.

You should talk to a lawyer or at the very least a counselor at a women's shelter. They have programs designed specifically for women like you, to help through the transition period. Good luck.

i know the police arent very effective but the least i can say is file a domestic violence report then file a restraining order. Get an apartment or something, anything is better then what it is now.

Very tough...I don't know that you can..
See if you can get a judge to issue a restraining order
that will keep him away from you and the house...
