Yes, I'm also a witch- have been for 20 years now. I'm a very normal person with a very normal family and job- my religion is just another part of my life. I do cast spells, but not in a Harry Potter way. It's more to do with attempting to influence what will be. You have to have a jolly good reason for doing it- and positive intentions at heart or you've no chance of it working (and if your intention is to bring about a negative outcome then you've no business trying!). My spells have mostly been successful. Look in the Mind, Body, Spirit section of any good bookshop (Waterstones, Borders etc) and you'll find a host of reputable books about witchcraft for beginners.

Hi there;
Yes, I do know many witches. I am one in fact. I follow a Wiccan path as well as being a kitchen witch. I do cast spells but not in the way that Hollywood portrays.
Though Wiccans and other Earth based spiritual persons are not as public as the more mainstream religious belief systems, we do exist and live quiet unassuming lives.

A witch is someone who follows a traditional (pagan) nature religion. Generally they worship a goddess and a god, but the Goddess typically gets more attention. The nature religion is (in general) called "wicca." There are tons of books on the subject.
Real witches are just regular people.
Spellcasting is a component of wicca, as it is to some extent in most religions -- faith healing among fundamentalists, novenas among catholics, etc. -- but it is not what makes one a witch.
(Also, the kind of spellcasting you see on TV & in movies is NOTHING like a real spell. All magick results come about through natural means.)
Finally, witchcraft has nothing whatsoever to do with Satanism, which is a different religion entirely.

I'm not a witch, I'm a pagan but I've read a bit about witchcraft. From what I gather, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. but casting spells is similar to prayer. They call upon nature to make requests which must be for good unselfish reasons

The term Witch is not a totally feminine designation.
As well, Witches may be herbalists, dowsers, midwives, and on and on.
Most Witches practice sympathetic magick much more often than casting.
Try reading something like Starhawk's "The Spiral Dance" rather than the Christian propaganda junk.
