Mrs. Smith wants to fence in her garden to keep the rabbits and deer out. The rectangular plot is 11 yards wide and 19 yards long. She plans to use the 8 yards of fencing left over from last year. How much more fencing does she need to buy?

2(11) + 2(19) = 60

60 - 8 = 52

The answer is 52

11 + 11= 22
19 + 19= 38
22 + 38 = 60
60 - 8 = 52
52 yards of fencing

11 * 2 + 19 * 2 - 8 = 52

Four sides, 11 yds +19 yds + 11yds + 19 yds
= 60 total yds of fencing. She already has 8 yds.
60 yds - 8 yds = 52 yds of fencing that she has
to buy.

welll find the perimeter of the garden 1st which wud be 11+19+11, she only wants it on three sides considering the other side is the wall of the house...
so it wud be 41
then subtract 8
so she wud need 33 more yards of fencing

also, if the other side of her garden was NOT the house, then she wud need to buy an additional 19, which wud make it 52 yards instead

you need to find the perimeter of the plot and then subtract what she has leftover from last year.
