I have a dog water feeder like this one http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=3104&Nav=1&N=0&Ntt=le+bistro&sku=536547&familyID=6998&#details

Its got a big plastic container on top that holds the water. everywhere online it says it "easy to clean" but i can't figure out how to clean it! Its disgusting, but i can't figure out how to get in there and get algae out. I don't want my dog to have to drink water from something thats tinged green... Any ideas?

Plastic is not a good watering bowl they have been known to put off toxins that can harm youer dog,the best is a steel bucket or pan.A dog needs fresh water every day,an your dog has not been getting it or you would not have algae in the plastic one so get a new pan an give your dog fresh water.

yes, they aren't the easiest to clean! You can use an aquarium cleaning brush (comes in a set of 3 at Wal Mart) and bend the wire to get the sides of the container clean. It is simply a bristle brush with a green wire handle. Use dishwashing detergent and hot water.

To get rid of the nasty algae, it is perfectly safe to use a little bleach and hot water to clean the container (both top and bottom). Bleach should be diluted in a 1:30 dilution ratio. That is, one part of bleach to 30 parts water...not a lot! :) So, if you have a gallon of water, that is about 1/8 cup of bleach. Let this solution sit in the top and bottom for 20-30 minutes, then rinse very well, several times, with fresh water. Let the pieces air dry, then you are ready to refill them. This also sanitizes the water bowl, so you are also eliminating bacteria, too! You probably should do this weekly anyway, especially if the bowl is outside.

Good luck!

Use a mixture of bleach and water to clean the water jug and run the plastic bowl through the dish washer.

Put a couple of cups of water in the jug. Add a couple of tbsp of bleach. Add a small handful of sand. Shake vigorously until clean. Rinse 3 times with clean water. That should do it!
