For a position as an administrative assistant for a company, dental practice office, or an agency.

I'm 20 years old and a college student. Will be applying for part-time positions.

Thanks in advance!

As a rule of thumb, if you're applying for a desk job, wear the suit. Even if they weren't expecting you to dress up that much, it still can't hurt their impression of you. What your boss wears during the interview can give you a hint about how you should dress at work if you get hired.

Y-E-S! Definitely. An interview no matter how big or small requires a suit. You only get one chance to make a first impression. From personal experince, I work in an optometrist office. I overheard the office manager say that they were not going to call someone back due to the way they dressed for the interview. That alone disqualified them. Also, I went to an ediquitte seminar and the person who was giving it was in the administrative field. She was interviewing three candidates and all three were great and she was really down to the wire decidng. Then on the day of the decision, an thankyou note came in the mail thanking her for taking the time to interview her and for the experience even if she was not chosen. She chose her for the position. Sometimes its the details that make all the difference.

Also as for suits, black, grey, green or burgandy are great choices. They look capable and professional. Avoid hot pink, etc.

You should always wear a tie at least. If you have a suit that is better. If you are interviewing for a professional job in an office always dress nicer than they do on a daily basis. You want to look your best to make the best first impression.

I believe a suit would be a good idea. I am taking an administrative couse and almost through and all the stuff I have learned a suit is the right way to dress.I always thought of it this way **DRESS FOR SUCCESS** You can only make a first impression once.

you should always dress to impress at an interview. i would wear the suit. even if its considered overkill by some. taking the time to dress apropriately for an interview lets the person who is interviewing you, know that you want the job.

i've told this same thing to people i know who are going to interview for positions as a janitors.

Always wear a tie to an interview, no matter what. If you can wear a suit, do it, however, make sure you wear a button up shirt and a tie.

A casual suit might be in order. Perhaps with a turtle neck rather than shirt and tie.
Good luck.

as my dad always said, "dress for the job you want, not the job you have." basically, always try to look your best and put forth a professional appearance. I always have worn a tie at the very least to an interview, even when i got my first job at Hardee's when i was 15. good luck to you.

Always looking smart is a good idea for an interview after all first impressions count.
