I know that the whole point in taking the pill is to stop you from getting pregnant. But even if someone was pregnant, i read that the pill doesn't hurt the baby. Therefore if your going to the doctors to prevent getting pregnant why do they ask? is there some other reason why they ask. for example wasting resources, or would it really affect the baby?

It would affect the baby. The pill gives you hormones which are harmful to a growing fetus. And probably to save a little money on birth control.

It's generally believed that the pill won't harm the baby should you get pregnant while you are on it. There's enough kids now conceived on the pill to say that's mostly the case. Still, there's been some BAD stuff happen to children carried while mom was taking hormonal meds. Children (and grandchildren!) whose mothers took DES (an old-school anti-miscarriage hormone therapy) can have reproductive disorders, elevated risks of cancer, and immune disorders.

So, to be safe, you go off the pill if you're pregnant. It isn't doing you any good at that point anyway.

Doctors don't like pregnant women taking ANYTHING unnecessary for the pregnancy, based on the potential of injury to the child. Remember that a pregnant woman is a hormone STORM, and adding additional hormones in the form of BC pills isn't at all useful.

It's basically a safety situation to prevent any possible harm to either the woman or her child.

I work in a Dr's office and we always ask and do a pregnancy test before giving BC pills. The reason is because it can harm the fetus and some women are under the impression that if they are in the early stages of pregnancy that taking the pill can cause a miscarriage.

Why? If they have to give you the pill and you haven't had it in the first place, then there's a chance you could be pregnant. Also, it can effect the baby with birth defects or mental disturbances.

Because why would they want to give you a birth control pill until after you have the baby. That is like putting the horse behind the cart.

The pill CAN hurt babies. Its hormones and certain hormones are needed at certain times for babies to grow "correctly". NEVER, take the pill if your preg.

I don't know where you read that, but certain bc pills can cause birth defects. That's why they ask you.

Perhaps the child would come out with the mentality of a PEZZ dispenser.
