I took the birth control shot, the depo provera since june. First I started to gain a lot of weight which didn't bother me, but I have been bleeding two weeks after the shot until today. Iwas suppose to go back and take a 2nd shot in september but i was too scared to go back. I don't know what to do and I hate going to the doctor.

You should definitely discuss it with your doctor. My friend was on the shot for many years and gained a lot of weight and after the first couple of months her period stopped completely which is supposedly normal. You may want to ask your doctor about other birth control methods that may be better suited for you such as the pill or patch.

To reassure you, the depo shot often causes irregular bleeding. Usually this means a lack of periods, but in rarer cases, heavy or continuous bleeding like yours is a known side effect... especially when you first go on it. If you can't tolerate the side effects, you are under no obligation to continue with it.

That said, you should still visit the doctor. Presumably you wanted to be protected against pregnancy. If you're off the shot, you aren't. They can also help you figure out if the bleeding is something you need to be concerned about.

you chose to take the first shot, that meant that you accepted the risks and responsibilities of doing so. Don't act the child now, go discuss it with your doctor.
