The civil war in the congo. The conflict is by no means solved but the killing has been reduced.

Also the israeli attack on Lebanon. Without the UN that agreement would never have happened.

1st- Welcome to Q&A,
Now about your ques.
When the idea for the UN came into being following WW2, It had a very noble and worthwhile raison d'etre.
The big mistake was not all countries were treated equal. Certain ones, USSR, USA,France, UK were all given permanent seats on the Security Council with power of veto. For the longest while, during the "so-called" cold war, it was the USSR kept vetoing anything their client states would be censored for. Then it was France for a short period & now it's the USA. There have been 100s of resolutions brought against Israel, and all have been vetoed by the USA. The only way the UN can function is if these countries are made equal to all others, until then, I'm afraid the Un will constantly be stymied. The major action carried out by the UN was the Korean War. I'm a strong believer in the UN as the only way to bring order to the planet, but until there is the polical will to revamp it and give it some serious teeth, I'm afraid as the peacekeeper of the world it's not to effective. Enjoy Q&A

I'm sure there are many instances where diplomacy was used, but I don't have my history book handy to reference anything specific. Without the United Nations, however, things would be in a much worse state than they are now.

Diplomacy doesn't actually solve conflicts. It just serves to make them more tolerable or to delay the inevitable.

Without the US involved, the UN has done nothing except have diplomats doing crime in NYC, owe millions in parking tickets etc. The UN is the biggest joke in history and needs to get the boot out of the USA. Go to Europe.

Isn't it true the UN made everyone in the world get a smallpox vaccination a few decades ago, which is why it now it doesn't exist anywhere now? I'm not sure on that one.
