I assume you are speaking of physical beauty, as you mention Aishwarya Rai. I also see the usual answers dealing with the notion of " beauty in the eye of the beholder " and "beauty is on the inside". Pure nonsense. Beauty has been quantified for some time and the lady you mentioned is beautiful, to the average mans taste. Our brains are not tricked, at least mine is not. I can see this woman you speak of as having a bad day, but her symmetry, both facial and bodily will not disappear overnight. Beauty, physical beauty, is no more an illusion than those not possessing it rail against it. Oprah and Dove Soap come to mind, though there motives are different. Oprah is besotted with her pseudo-scientists, Dr. Phil and his ilk. Dove wants to make money, so they will jump on any relativistic, nonsensical bandwagon to do that.

All of us have our own vision of what beauty is to them. As well how often and how close you are to people will influence after a while how beautiful they are and someone whom you find unattractive at present you may see as getting better looking the more you spend time with them and/or get to like them. So I don't actually believe that our brains are being tricked but we merely mature and as we do so beauty takes on a whole new meaning and the beauty that the media tries to sell us has a lot less impact.

You sound like you might be young, so I will assume so. As you experience more in life you will realize that beauty is indeed an illusion, one that we are brainwashed with on a daily basis. It isn't until we meet a truly beautiful person, one that starts from the inside, that we realize that this person is also beautiful outside. I have met many physically beautiful people, some are friends of mine, but some of them are ugly on the inside, self-absorbed, unkind, mean spirited, and so they become ugly on the outside as well.

Beauty has to do with symmetry. Beauty is an ideology. Different cultures have different perceptions of what beauty is. The culture that you come from has taught you what beauty is for you and it's not what the general public agrees with.
Nobody got tricked, we were all exposed to different types of cultures and the dominating American culture wins over all minorities...so the general public is the average American...are you the average American? Are you the typical white/blond/tall/thin/blue eyed/patriotic person?

Growing pains, that is all. We graduate from tastes of old to new. To find true beauty everlasting you must search inside yourself. Some are a constant, like the beauty you see may not be tomorrow as you say, but then the beauty you felt at that time, when you liked it is kept in your memory so think back to that feeling and you will find the beauty again that is true and you will see it is all inside you in your feelings.

Money follows beauty. With money a beautiful person can remain so because the can afford the treatments and avoid the hazards that others must endure.

of course beauty is an illusion. its not real because we all look at things or other people differently. theres no book or rule or law that states that in order to be "beautiful" you need to be this and that. society makes those up and our minds simply play along.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What is beautiful to one may be ugly to the other. No trick it's personal choice.
