yes, if a certain number of geopolitical factors line up, oil supply, dollar hegemony etc...its a house of cards, people just don't know it.

Of course American has recuperated, where are you getting your data from? The economy is stronger than ever, people are getting paid better, there are more jobs, etc. Additionally, there have been numerous new systems put into place to make America safer. Lastly, there was never an "Empire", it is the people that continue to make us stronger than ever.

As to China, you're right, they are growing up and will continue to play a greater role in the world, which doesn't have to be a bad thing. It means their people will see the world, the benefits of democracy and capitalism. I will admit that at times I have thought the Chinese could turn, and go back to some of their crazier years, but I have a little more faith than that.

People need to be less pessimistic and work harder to make a change.

Probably the beginning of the end.
It is the aftermath of 9/11 that will destroy the US. The willingness of Americans to sacrifice their rights on the alter of security and to support unjust wars that are founded in economics will destroy the very fabric that is (or was) the greatness of America. The US has for a long time looked back at the McCarthy era with a shudder but dear old uncle Joe did not have a Guantanamo Bay.

Now begins the final act - Götterdämmerung.

Only if we make it so by marching to the tune of Dictator Dumbya. Empires are like massive stars, they burn bright for a short time then explode and collapse into back holes. Choose a representitive democracy every time if you can.

I certainly hope so. I'm getting tired of the U.S. always being looked to as the protector of the rest of the world. It's time for other countries to take on their fair share of the responsibilities.
