When Jack chooses which cage he wants to stay in and he opens one and a bottle falls out, what is that stuff and why do they have it?

Chlorophorm (spelling?) which when inhaled will make a person pass out. The ship's crew had it onboard because they normally went searching for 'wild animals'... Ironically, the one time they let the ship be used for a movie production, they still end up searching for that 'wild animal'...lol

Its either a poison or, as someone stated already, an anesthetic to subdue the animal there capturing or even, if they have to, Kill it.
