I get them sometimes. When she nurses I get them and sometimes when I'm full and ready for her to nurse I get them.

Not shooting pains, but when my daughter began to nurse, and the milk "let down" I did feel some very uncomfortable tingling.

YES--it is awful pain! I found and not through my doctor-that it was actually a yeast infection on my breasts--so taking a yeat infection pill would acutally help-although it takes up to 2 weeks for it to actually work. For more information read this page--very helpful and encourraging:

Cal your DR/Midwife and have a chat with them about it, it is possible to get an infection in your milk ducts, but I don't know if this fits your symptoms, do you have a good supportive bra?
Please check with a health professional who knows you & your baby.
Good luck, and congratulations on your baby and giving baby the best start.

yes i did and sometimes its normal too much excrutiating pain can sometimes be a problem but usually considered fine especially when your milk is first coming through, my milk didnt come for ages i was in hospital for 6 days, they wouldnt let me leave until it came through, which kinda sucked they wouldnt let me change to bottle even though my son was getting restless and would want a feed every hour!
once my milk came through it calmed down a bit but babies can sometimes suck so hard it feels like they are biting.

Sharp pains, like stabbing?
This sounds like it could be thrush. Have you had any signs of a yeast infection? Have you been on antibiotics lately? Does baby have any signs of thrush? (Diaper rash, white spots in mouth?)

I used to get it after feeding...like around the top of my breast at about my armpit. Usually on the side I had fed on.
