Hey! Yeah!!! There's another one like me out there!!
No, honestly. Last Christmas we added up all our credit and debit card transactions. We are a family of five - and it all came to over £2000!! We spent on pressies for the kids and family (naturally). We bought loadsa food and trillions of nibbles 'just in case someone comes round'. We bought loadsa booze 'just in case someone comes round'. It went on and on!!
This year, we asked the kids how they felt about us giving them £50 quid cash each, and not spending loadsa cash on trivial stuff like food and booze (which incidentally we still have in the freezer and down in the cellar)! We told them that with all the money we will 'save' we would go on a good holiday next Christmas.
The kids all agreed to this! Thankfully! However, when an advert comes on telly and the youngest one goes 'Oh Mum, can I have that for Christmas?', we have to remind him of the £50 quid rule!!
I tell you, it's really liberating not to be swept along with everybody else in the 'Have you started your Christmas shopping yet'. 'How many shopping days to Christmas?' etc. etc. The only concession I've made (of course) is I've already got my Christmas cards - bought them in Debenhams - 3 for the price of 2!!
Scrooge Rules!!
LOL!

Get an Oxfam unwrapped catalogue (you can look at it on the Oxfam website). Christmas presents are by and large a waste of money- but have a look at this and you might change your mind.
For the price of a DVD and a tin of Quality Street you can buy school supplies for under priviledged children, for a bit more of an investment you can even buy someone who really needs it a cow or a donkey. You can buy the gifts on behalf of somebody else as well.

Yep, can't say I blame you, I used to spend Christmas with my sisters family, I totted up how much I was spending on gifts just for her, her hubby and 2 kids. Just on gifts I would be spending £180, plus food/snacks+drinks easily £250. I got from them one shirt from a recently advertised 2 for £5 offer. After 2 beers that was it, empty glass for the rest of the stay, understandable if they were poor but the opposite is true, they're a 2 car family who take 4 overseas holidays a year! Cards only now!

I think youve got a point Christmas isnt celebrated for the real reason it supposed to be celebrated for. Everybody gets panicky about Christmas mostly parents who end up in debt trying to make sure the kids have got enough for Christmas. Anyway hope ur going to send cards.Theres ones that you can even make on your own.

Its your choice entirely, I believe that Christmas has got too materialistic, and the three wise men brought gifts to Jesus at his birth, thus the reason why we give gifts at Christmas.
Jesus is the reason for the season!

I buy for my kids first and my grandparents but everyone else is adult and can take care of themselves. On that note, I dont expect gifts for me as well. Christmas should be about family, not gifts.

I'm buying for my daughter (and a few little things for her friends on her behalf). Other than that, I'm not going to bother. I might get a few goats adopted via Oxfam, have them donated to someone who needs them!

Each to their own! I think a lot of people are skint and can't be bothered this year!!! You won't be the first not to buy pressies and you won't be the last!!!

Maybe to make up for it you could give the amount you would have spent on Christmas to a charity instead.

How quickly you have forgotten all the years your parents bought for you .tried to make you happy with what you asked for, you could have the decency to buy for them and your grandparents also. if you want to be scrooge , fine but don't turn away from those who have not turned away from you ...
