It all depends on what is squeaking. If it is the box springs, you have to replace them. If it is the frame, then just have your hubby tighten up the screws and bolts that hold it together. I understand you want to hang on to it for sentimental reasons, but beds wear out and at some point you will need a new bed. Move that one into the guest room, then you can hear the guests make it squeak while you and your hubby get it on in your new quiet bed.

Squeaky Beds

Take the mattress and all the other bedding off and try tightening all of the fasteners, and put some light machine oil where the posts and rails join together. Put it all back together and give a whirl. If that doesn't work, redo the whole procedure until it quiets down. Until then, have fun trying!

Investigate the source of the squeak. There is obviously metal or wood rubbing against opposite surfaces. The bed may need to be tightened up or there may be damage to the bed. Take the mattress and box spring off of the frame (assuming that they are not the source of the squeaking). Have someone shake the bed by pushin and pulling alternatively. When you spot the source of the squeak, put light machine oil on metal to metal problems and light machine oil or liquid dish soap on any wood to wood problems. Sometimes, I have had to put a layer of rubber gasketing on one of my metal to metal noises. You will just have to study it out and take appropriate action.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! That is just too funny........The other night I was thinking the exact same thing about our headboard....Darn noisy headboard! And I was going to come on here and ask a question about it but I was too embarrassed........I was so afraid it was going to wake up the children and it was really hilarious watching my husband try to do his thing at the same time he was trying to hold the headboard and keep it from banging against the wall.......We have not laughed that hard in a while since we use to have a water bed we never had this issue......Thanks for making me laugh at that again!!!!!

Raise the bed frame and put a pillow behind the headboard. Also, place some blocks or heavy books behind the frame's wheels. Carpet underneath the bed also will minimize the squeaking.

Good luck

You know those boards that run under the bed. You may need more of those. My husband builds upscale custom furniture. When our bed was squeaking, he replaced the boards which had become warped. It took care of the problem.

if the springs are shot there really is no other way then to replace it or try some spray lube that may help but then the bed will smell like spray lube I can understand that it may be sentimental
but can you honestly say that you will never buy another bed bite the bullet and replace.
