Most politicians will say anything to get voted. It's always fun to look back on what a politician said after they have been in office for a couple of years. The problem is that everyone seems to think that teachers need pay raises, but no one will actually sit down and figure out how to do it. It reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw:

It will be a great day when the education budget gets all the money it wants, and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a jet.

I might not have remembered it verbatim, but you get the idea.

Then that politician is lying through his/her teeth. No one in government gives a crap about teachers until election year.
