Well, my son is almost four months and he weighs 16 pounds. He drinks 6 ounces every feeding period (of formula). Sometimes five ounces, sometimes seven, but lets just say six.
He drinks one bottle in the morning, another before twelve. Another before three and again around five thirty to six. Thats four bottles while you are at work. Unless you feed him the morning bottle, in which case you should make enough bottles to last the babysitter the rest of the day (around six) til you get home. this will probably be three bottles at about six ounces a piece.

He's a chunker huh? How sweet. Just pump both breasts until they are empty several times each day and keep it in the freezer or refrigerator. Having a supply on hand will keep the guess work out of it. It might be a hassle but pump every chance you get and don't supplement any formula bottles while trying to pump. If possible pump at work every 2 hours to keep up your milk supply. The more you pump and nurse the more milk you will produce. I am nursing my 12 month old still and I worked from her age 6 months to 9 months. I pumped at work and home and still nursed her and have plenty of milk for outings. You can go to any lactaction website and it will tell you how long to keep breastmilk. Good luck with the job, I was only able to work for 3 months! My baby quit drinking breastmilk from a bottle while I was away!

I understand your predicament which is of all working women everywhere. You have read the estimatios given by other answers As one says even if you suck yourself dry it would just be enough for one baby feed. If there are no creches near your workplace it is going to be a problem for feeding the baby if you keep it only on your own milk. Can you get a foster mother? I understand that there are services in some societes where mothers who have excess supplies download it in bottles and one can access it through NGOs/hospitals. Also try to wean the child away from your milk and instead get it used to cow milk which is equally good. In the intial period of your separation it may be that your breasts will be overfull with milk and almost each. Better keep bottles handy and fill them up for later use ensuring that these are properly preserved. They would be a great help. However, perhaps this problem will not loast long. Unless you breastfeed it regularly the milk supplies may tend to dry up gradually. Don't grieve over it. It is a natural reaction of body.

If you can, try to fill it to 8 oz. That way you eliminate the possibility of him getting hungry. It's best to have more, than less and still be hungry.

ur breast milk supply is based on how much your baby eats. as they need more, it increases. If you pump until you are dry, that should be enough for one feeding for your baby.
