Charles the 1st (king from 1625 - 1649)

EDIT

Lucky, there was no English King between Charles 1sts execution in 1649 and Charles 2nd becoming King in 1660.

The Cromwells (Oliver then his son Richard) were in charge with their parliament supposedly running the country, though Oliver ruled like a monarch.

Charles II (1630 - 1685)

Charles II Charles II, as the oldest surviving son of Charles I, spent part of the English Civil War (1642-6) fighting on his father's behalf in the West of England, most notably at the Battle of Edgehill (1642). He was forced into exile - travelling first to the Isles of Scilly and Jersey. (It was in Jersey that he met the mistress who was eventually to give birth to his son, James, Duke of Monmouth.)

Charles I, although that was the year the English Civil War broke out, so leadership of the country was probably questionable until he was finally executed in 1649.
