1. What is the slope and the y-intercept of y= 6x-8

2.Which two equations represent parallel lines.
a. y = 8x-8 b. y= -8x+8 c. y = 8x +3 d. y= -1/8x - 8

1)
The slope is 6, and the y-intercept is -8.

2)
"a" and "c", because they have the SAME slope

3)
y = -4x + 3

1. y = 6x - 8 is y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept so
6 is the slope
-8 is the y intercept

2. Lines with the same slope are parallel. Look at the options, which two equations of lines have the same slope?
a and c since both slopes are 8

3. if the slope is -4 and the y intercept is 3, plug it into the equation for a line: y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept.
y = -4x + 3

Y=MX+B
M refers to the slope of a line
B refers to the y-intercept

for the first question y=6x-8
6 refers to the slope, since the original equation is +B, the intercept for this equation should be a negative number

for the second question, you need to look at the intercept (the +B) part and find the two that match

for the third question, you just need to plug numbers into the correct places in the equation Y=MX+B

1. y-intercept is -8 and slope is 6/1
2. a and c, because they have the same slope (8 is the co-efficient of x and gives the gradient)
3 y = -4x + 3

* gradient = slope, but im used to gradient

1) gradient = 6, y-cept = -8.
(y = [gradient]x + [y-cept])

2) a + c (same gradient)

3) y = -4x+3 (y = [gradient]x + [y-cept])
