Okay, first, any part of this question is NOT against Americans, just at NBC.
Im an Aussie looking fowred to the 2008 Bejing Olympics and I just herd on the radio that NBC has convinced the IOC to hold the Swimming and Gymnastics FINALS in the MORNING Bejing time just so the americans get it prime time.
I am disgusted.
1. American TV studios should not be able to minipulate the worlds TV markets.
2. All the Chinese people will miss out if they wanted to see the swimming finals as they would have to go to work.
3. There is a less chance of a world recored being broken in the morning.
4. The athletas themselves are against the idea so the IOC should think athleates before money!
So what are your thorghts and should we start a petion or something. I would love to hear from Americans and anyone else affected.
NBC should wait for another American olympics to make americans happy!

I never thought of that. That is really aggravating. I am an American and I don't think that the world should have to cater to our time schedules either when televising events. I guess powerful businesses with alot money like NBC will always the power of persuasion internationally. I am sorry man, that really is unfair and I wish there was something I could think of to help, but us little people can't compete against big powerful corporations!

It's actually for North American prime time
I'm Canadian and was in 1988 Olympics in Seoul and this has been going on from before, some events weren't broadcast in prime time because the network wanted to please other continents watching.
All Olympics outside of North America being broadcast by NBC or CBS will go on the time zone that is better for North America as most of the commercials and advertisements are bought up by North American companies and studios. If North Americans are not seeing them who is going to buy the product. World records have been broken in the morning, world records are broken at any time. Only non North Anerican athletes are against this.
The real sport that need to be in Prime time anyway is Athletics. The Americans want to see their swimmers win, you're upset because you can't see your Aussie swimmers.
Olympic City residents are not usually going to the games anyway, it's more tourists that buy up the tickets, didn't see many South Koreans in the stadium when I was there.

It's just business. They are willing to pay the most money for the coverage and the OIC is willing to make concessions for that. Why would NBC pay top dollar for something they are not going to get top dollar revenue from? Trust me it is less about making americans happy and more about making their shareholders happy. I am sure the Olympic committe would LOVE it if other television networks world wide got into a bidding war with NBC. Oh, and FYI for someone that claims to not be against americans, you certainly seem to be taking great pains to point out it happens to be an american television network as opposed to pointing out the evils of Big Business in general calling the shots.

1. Previous Olympics (Sydney, Seoul) have shown that fewer people will watch the broadcast if they know the outcome beforehand. That decrease in views reduces the amount they can charge for ads and reduces the amount they make.
2. Not being a charity, NBC is in the game to make money
3. If NBC is going to lose money, the Olympics will not be able to charge as much for the TV rights, to future games so it is in their best interest to help NBC keep their ratings up.
4. Yeah, it sucks if you're an athlete.
5. If you have to go to work, two words Ti Vo.

You care about the Olympics at all, let alone enough to watch it on TV? Huh.
The only time I ever got excited about the Olympics is when I was 11 years old and McDonald's started their Olympic pealer game. If the USA won the event you pealed then you won a Big Mac. But I still didn't watch it on TV. I just checked the newspaper every morning.
Haven't thought about it much since then.

I am an American and I completely agree with you. It is not fair to the world that we can get things done in this way. Don't get me wrong, I like living in a place that comes with advantages like this, who wouldn't, but it isn't fair to everyone else.
I think that in any sport, the governing body should listen first to the athletes and players who participate. Their preferences and competitive preferences should be given priority.

Are you stupid? NBC is located in America. Tell one of your Aussie networks to show it at the time you want to see it. Get with Crocodile Dundee and maybe he can help you.
