I want to take my family to Las Vegas sometime next year. Which hotels are best for kids(under 5 yrs)? Are there any hotels on the strip that offer child care, kids activities, etc?

My suggestions, for a "family" LV vacation..

1-Orleans - It's on Tropicana and off the strip, but, the Orleans is a great spot for families...Low cost/very nice, large rooms/nice pool/Kids Tyme-child care for ages 3-9/ 18 screen theater/great variety/value when it comes to food selection/etc...The Orleans will price match any online rate you find. http://www.orleanscasino.com - 1-800-675-3267 - One of my favorites and IMHO the best value...

2-Excalibur - On the corner of Tropicana and LV Blvd(strip)...The Fantasy Faire Midway is great for small kids, they treat the little ones like gold...My little girl loved it when she was 3 and 4>had to buy 3 bags one year to bring home all the stuffed animals she won...She's 15 now and of course prefers shopping and pools :) ...The show at Excalibur is a terrific family show - Tournament of Kings - The pool is a nice one for small kids or adults..

I don't recommend Circus Circus(for small kids or families)for teenagers the AdventureDome makes for a great days fun. MGM isn't as kid friendly as it was years ago when they had the amusement park, someone mentioned the wizard of oz at MGM, that is long gone...They do have a Lion Habitat and the kids can have their pictures taken while holding a Lion cub...The Lions at MGM are a little more interesting than the White Tigers at Mirage because they have handlers in with the Lions to keep them active...

A few family activities you will not want to miss>I taking into account you have small children and not teenagers, my list would be different in that case...

Fountains of Bellagio- The kids will love this one/so will the adults!

The Masquerade Show in the Sky at Rio - kids love it AND they can actually dress up and take part...Free to watch-there is a charge to ride in the parade...

wildlife habitat at the Flamingo -

shark reef-Mandalay Bay

White Tigers - Dolphins-Mirage

Fremont Street Experience- down town, not first on my list for small kids, but you might check it out and see what you think..The show only lasts about 5 minutes, starts at the top of each hour after dark...Or "Sunset Stampede" at Sam's Town>later shows are better/lasers show up better after dark...

Forum Shops-Caesars Palace lots of kid friendly stores - an aquarium - two animatronic shows

You ask about child care, we took a different approach and it worked out well for everyone...We took our own babysitter with us,(grandma-cousin in college-etc).We paid for air/hotel some food and expenses when entertaining our little girl..It made the trip much more enjoyable for everyone...The girls could go shopping while I took her to the carnival midway or a show...We could go out to dinner/show/gambling...She could go to the pool early, we could sleep in...We took turns, or all went together, it really worked great for us...

There was a period of time when Vegas tried to be a family destination but that's no longer true. Several hotels won't even let kids in unless you're a registered guest.

There are a few things the kids would enjoy but to tell you the truth... I'd leave them home or choose another destination.

Between being blocked completely from some hotels, not being allowed in the casinos and not that much to entertain them I think you can choose a much more appropriate vacation destination like Disney World if it's a family vacation.

If you really want to go anyway I'd definitely stay at Circus Circus. It's the most kid friendly of the hotels and there is quite a bit there for them. Personally, we've been there several times and find it filthy and uninviting. The food is also rated very bad.

Another kid friendly hotel is Excalibur but it's not all it's cracked up to be. There is fun stuff for the kids but the food is awful and the place is dated. The rooms are dark and cold looking. We have stayed there.

Circus Circus is the classic kid-friendly spopt on the Strip. It's a little run-down these days, but your kids will love the midway and all the free circus acts. There's also an attached indoor theme park there. Don't stay there, though- I sort of saw a roach there once.

Treasure Island is also a good time. There's a midway with games for the kids there as well, and everything is pirate-themed, which is really in this year. They also have a fun little show every hour on the hour, with some swashbuckling pirates defeating an English merchant ship. There aren't any scary explosions or anything that would frighten the little ones, though, which is good.

I have always favored the Excalibur, though, myself. The whole hotel is like a giant Renaissance fair, which is totally cool to begin with. They have some street performer-type people, like caricature artists and jugglers, who roam around the hotel for the kids' entertainment, and there is a midway on the lower level with Renaissance-themed games. Also at the Excalibur is a nightly joust, like the kind they have at the Medieval Times restaurants, and it's a really fun affair for the whole family.

Another really cool spot for the kids is MGM Grand, which has the Emerald City amusement park in it. They have lots of rides which are appropriate for small kids, and characters from the Wizard of Oz are around for the kids to get their ictures taken with them. It's really fun.

As for child care, I know for a fact that Circus Circus offers it, but I'm not sure about the other hotels I mentioned. I would assume so, though, as they're all competing against each other for business. Have fun in Las Vegas!!

If I were you I'd stay away from Circus Circus. The rates are Cheap for a reason, it's kind of a dump. Go to tripadvisor.com to take a better look at various places. New York New York has a good arcade and roller coaster, thats some good entertainment for the kids. And it is more in the heart of the strip. Circus Circus is kind of away from the best part of Vegas, so thats another reason to stay away. Mandalay Bay has a really cool wave pool that is great for the family. While it is at the other end of the strip and a little ways away form the heart of Vegas, the place is huge and close to some other places that could be considered a little more kid friendly.

There is a Hawthorne Suite right behind the Tropicana Hotel that has a great set up for families. No casino....
Seperate bedroom or bedrooms.
They have full breakfast and dinners most nights.
They even take pets.
Not many other hotels are accessible without smoke and casinos.

Excalibur is a good family hotel (by Las Vegas standards) if you want a big,,,hotel.

Circus Circus is also geared for kids, but at bad end of strip.

The revolving restaurant on top of the Stratosphere would be spectacular if you get a table next to a window. You'll forget the food but will remember the views for the rest of your life.

The public areas of Wynn, Encore, Venetian and Palazzo are attractions in themselves. Especially Wynn and Encore. Wynn cost $2.7 billion to build, and Encore was $2.3 billion. I spent about an hour just wandering around Wynn and Encore last month, it was very relaxing and enjoyable without spending a dime. You'll almost feel as if you've been transported to an alternate utopian universe.

As far as getting him a massage, that's a tricky one. The legitimate massage places might give him a male masseuse and he might not like having a man running his big muscular hands all over his body. But on the other hand (heh heh) you would not like him getting one of those Asian late night massage parlor type of massages from an Asian gal in a mini skirt and bikini top. He would probably love it but never admit it to you.

The Playboy Club at the Palms is another good option which will let him feel like he's being naughty but with a lower jealousy factor than the Asian bikini massage since you'd be there with him.

Take him to Olympic Garden for some lap dances. You can give him a lap dance "tag team" style with one of the strippers.

OK OK I'm a pervert, I admit it. But most guys like that kind of stuff.

I truely have to agree that Vegas is not a place for kids. It is a very crowded, adult based destination. I went there for the first time last summer & found many people drunk in the streets after dark & all of those nasty little cards that people try to hand you when you walk by!!! We had that kind of stuff thrown at us night & day while walking on the strip.

Don't take the kids. It's NOT a place for them. You and your wife go by yourselves - leave the kids with grandparents. Take 'em to Disney or do a cruise or something another time.

Vegas in the 90s tried to cater to families - but they found it really didn't work for them so well. So, now they've reverted back to Grown-Up Disneyland. More and more hotels are gearing themselves towards adults - more clubs, more casino action, upscale restaurants, adult-oriented shows.

To be honest with you Vegas is not a place for kids. However, the best hotel would probably be Circus Circus. I've never stayed there but I've heard it's a dump---but it's good for kids they have a circus (go figure).
Why not go to grand canyon or disneyworld/land instead?
