I don't think that there is a specific time you have to wait, just make sure the baby is warm and cozy. Sometimes it is good to wait just to get use to the babies feeding schedule, and your wife may be too tired or to uncomfortable to walk a long ways for a couple of days/ weeks or so.

Fresh air and daylight are important to newborn babies, but it does depend on what your daily routine is. Research has shown that a short walk (well, push!), in the afternoon helps a baby regulate it's body clock. Always a good thing.
If it's your first you will probably be too overwhelmed to go further than the corner shop at first. There are no rules, and you have to do what works for you. I took my son out the first week, just around the village green, but my first I didn't go out the house for about three months. I honestly believe it is part of, but not the cause of my post natal depression.
Be aware that new babies will be fawned over by every passing stranger, so if you will be uncomfortable about this, it might be worth avoiding places like restaurants where you cannot leave if you get fed up as you have just had the first course.
Just remember, you may disagree with your wife, but it has to be what you both feel comfortable with. One partner insisting the baby has a 10 minute walk, when the other one doesn't want it to get a cold, is going to add more pressure to a time when you will be feeling the strain.
Enjoy your new baby, I'm sure you will be great parents.

The only reason not to take a newborn out and about would be immune system issues. It is fine to take you newborn out to get some fresh air, take a walk at the park, it's good excercise for mom also. If you are going to the mall or some place like that, be sure to use good hand washing techniques. If you choose to breast feed, the beast milk will provide additional antibodies to help fight off any bugs that you're exposed to. Just use comman sense.
Enjoy you new little blessing!!

They surgest 10 days for a healthy baby, due to the babies immune system. With it been december make sure that when you do go out that you wrap both mum and baby up nice and walm.
The midwife can also advise on this, it all depends on the health of the baby and mum.

Quite honestly, if there are no complications, you can take your baby out as soon as you bring him home. It would be especially healthy to take him outside on walks as long as he's properly dressed. In many hospitals in Europe, the newborns are actually taken outside in their bassinets for part of the day. There is a lower concentration of germs outside than there is in enclosed spaces - that's why colds spread so much faster in the winter; people are inside more and the germs become more concentrated indoors.
I took my baby out the day we brought her home, and she's ridiculously healthy.
Congratulations on your new addition. Best of luck!

As long as the baby is wrapped up nice and warm when outside, then it is OK to take it out as soon as your wife feels up to it.
Make sure you can take layers off when you enter shops etc.
I was out shopping for 3 hours with my daughter at 1 week old.

Bringing my 3 day previous son domicile from the wellness care professional's workplace, i ended via domicile Depot to %. up some factors. He slept soundly in his vehicle seat provider interior the procuring cart. I have been given a great number of oohs and ahhs, and he slept in the process the entire subject. No harm carried out. of path you do no longer desire to over do it with too plenty sunlight, or too plenty coping with via strangers. yet a walk in the process the mall each so many times for an hour or 2 demands no waiting. in case you sense as much because it, and have each and all the needed factors to feed and sparkling the toddler interior the stroller, choose for it. in basic terms understand they gained't wait to get domicile to be fed. Have a bottle or a breast waiting with the aid of fact you're on their time table, no longer any opposite direction around. in case you're actually not delicate doing that for the time of public, then make the trip between feedings, or have a quiet place in ideas at your trip spot Shrieking toddlers are not getting many ooohs and aaahs. i'm hoping this helps.

Straight away, providing s/he has a hat, blanket and all the necessary woolly kit, coz its gonna be cold!
I avoided closed spaces (shops etc) until the baby was a month old, and even then limited stay (in and out quick), until he had his first injection, and therefore some form of protection against germs.

A lot of answers have made comments about taking baby outside with all the germs etc....
Your baby will probably encounter more germs being couped up in the house all the time. Fresh air is great for babys. Obviously if it is cold, make trips short and wrap him/her up well. I first took my son out at about 4 days old for a walk to the shop.
