Those kids in Pittsburgh are on fire. With Malkin, Crosby, Stall, and Fleury in their line up they've got a great future and will finally make it to the playoffs.
Montreal Canadiens. Goalie controversy. I'm a bit disappointed with the way Huet is playing right now but it's great that we kept Aebischer. Go HABS.

For a disapointing start I would have to say Philidelphia. They are 2-7-1 in there first 10 games and have just fallen apart from last season. I dont get it they still have alot of there good solid stars like Forseburg and Gagne. I dont know what happened to Esche. He was a ligit goalie last year. And also Nittymaki. He was great last year but inly 2-5 this year isnt so good. On the flip side for the most suprising start from a winning stanpoint would have to be Pittsburg. They have a 6-3 record and look to be rounding into form early in the season. Sidney and Evegeni Malkin are an amazing young duo that holds alot of skill and talent. Fleury has also been great for the Pens. But ya never know any team can turn a horrible start into a playoff berth or vice-versa.

Anahiem. How are they doing it? (8-0-0-3) Other than Selanne and Pronger they dont really have that much. Giguere is a surprise but not out of nowhere. He is good, but drifted away the last few years.
Pittsburgh is not a surprise. They had it coming, and Malkin completed it. Staal is a surprise and looking good.
Philly and Carolina are big surprises.. what happen during the off season cause neither team really lost anyone.

Pittsburgh Penguins by far are the biggest surprise even with all that young talent i dint think it was going to happened so fast. the Sabres well if you really watch hockey then the Sabres wouldn't be that big of a surprise cause they shown sign of it last year with there speed. and for the Hurricanes well the lost allot of leadership from guys like Weight and Recchi, and lost some key players like Ward and Cullen that are great defensively.and don't forget Vasicek.
Meilleur_...>>> I DON'T CARE HOW MANY GAMES HE PLAYED IN THE REGULAR SEASON ITS THE PLAYOFFS THAT COUNT, he has won 2 Stanley cup's before joining the Canes and that's a very big help. and for Weight OK he never won a cup but still he has been in the league for quite some time and he too is a leader on and off the ice and YES Mark Recchi was a big key to the Canes success last years Stanley cup champs. you need this guys MEILLEUR_...

I love the Pens and they are the biggest surprise to me, I thought they might be able to compete for the 8th or 7th seed this year but this is beyond what I expected. I knew Crosby was going to be better this year, but what I didnt expect was they were going to keep Staal due to possibly losing two of their future hall of fame players in the same year being so likely. Glad they did keep him though, now I see a 3 seed and possibly a stanley cup win.
Buffalo is the second biggest suprise for me the best team in the NHL I didnt see it coming.

For me, it's the Minnesota Wild. They've gone from a team that barely broke .500 last season (84 points) to a disciplined defensive team that converts their opportunities.
Even with Gaborik only playing in half their games so far, they've gone 9-2-0, with guys like Rolston and Bouchard leading the attack. They live and die, though, with defense and goaltending, and they've been great so far in both. Manny Fernandez has been on fire, and they've got a solid defensive unit.
I'm not too surprised by the Pens. They've got an amazing group of young talents, and a good goaltender in Fleury. I'm not sure how deep they could advance in the playoffs, but they've got a great foundation for the future.

Pittsburgh....not only have the young drafties (Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Whitney, Staal) been playing real well, some others like Ouellet, Gonchar and Recchi are doing great. I can't wait until Cairns and Orpik come back.
B.T.W. how did the canes lose leadership with Recchi gone? He went to Carolina 60-some games into the season...

I'd say the Penguins have surprised most people. They shouldn't really be as surprising as they were. Last year they didn't have any team chemistry, so all the talent was for naught. This year they did a team building excercise at West Point, add to that they were getting better last year as they started to gel and that a bunch of them went to Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton. It's just after being so bad for 4 years people didn't expect it to turn around like this.

Carolina sucks and never deserved to win the Cup in the first place. So it's not "What happen to Carolina this year?" it should be "How the heck did Carolina gte into the playoofs last year?" Pittsburgh doesn't surprise me because they have good, young talent (Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Fleury). They had either first or second round picks for the last four drafts, so they're going to be good for a while. I think Minnesota kinda surprised me. Gabriok's injured so they only have Fernandez, yet they're still first in their division. Detroit's also surprising in that they suck this year. I didn't think the loss of Stevie Y would affect them that much because they've played a lot before without him. Maybe the loss of Shanahan made the difference. Letting Manny Legace go wasn't a really good choice considering they have to rely on Osgood if anything happens to Hasek.

Carolina will (and are starting-to) get their sh-it togther. It doesn't surpirse me that they're off to a so-so start. They have alot of heart and will continue to get better as the season progresses.
Phila. got off to a god-aweful start but are also beginning to show signs of greatness. This also doesn't surprise me.
Dallas is my biggest surpise. I am a new Dallas-fan and I never ever ever thought I would say that, but the more I watch THIS team, the more I respect them. Their teamwork is absolutely incredable and beautiful to watch. Their heart and guts can only be matched by Phila...
Should be an intersting year.
