Are the players in the NBA over payed? and why do you think so?

They maybe greedy but not overpaid. If you view it as a business like the owner, if you pay player x this amount, player y sez why can't i be payed the same? Domino effect. The owners then pass it on to the fans who pay to see their teams. Capatilism, supply and demand. If no fans show, then no money etc. How much does the best tiddle wink player make? If you heard that your friend was making more money than you doing the same job would you want the same pay? Its what the market can bare. Granted the pro make money most of us would like to make so it seems alot but i'd rather be the guy who pays them, would'nt you? Does anyone complain that Gates and Buffet make the money they do? They have more, they just don't flaunt it like the pros do.

The pro athelete only looks ridiculous when they ask for pension plans etc when us dolts obtain our own pension or 401. Dumbest request by pros is when they ask for part of the gate receipts....where do they think the owners are getting their money in the first place to pay them? If they want the gate receipts then let them have it but they must also pay for maintenance and the employees who work there and pay the loan to the local government.

I used to think so since they make so much more than teachers, cops, firefighters and soldiers, etc...and it's valid to argue the point that way, but now I think about it a little differently.

I think they are actually underpaid in a way, considering how much money everyone else makes on them. Think about it, what they are paid is actually only a fraction of what their teams earn on account of having them on their team. Do you think Cleveland would sell out every game if they didn't have LeBron? Do you think the NBA would sell billions of dollars worth of basketball jerseys around the world if it weren't for Kobe, D-Wade, Shaq, and Iverson? What about all these companies that sign players for endorsements (Nike, Gatorade, Adidas, etc.) These companies make a LOT more money as a result of paying these athletes. It may seem like a lot to us, but to a company it's really peanuts to them because they can jack up the price of their products because they know every kid is going to want Gatorade because D-Wade drinks it. They're going to have to go buy that expensive sneaker because AI wears them, etc, etc. As long as players are going to be exploited like that, they deserve a fair share of those profits. The market bears out their value, in other words.

i think ALL pro athletes are over paid. If u love the game (which is why u started playing as a child), why does it matter how much u get paid?

It is called capitalism. You get paid what the market can bear.
