I doubt strongly that they'll change it anytime soon, however it's an antiquated law. Just like an age requirement. Theres no reason for it, if a person is a citizen they should enjoy equal rights.

It would probably be quite hard to achieve... think about it, since 1789 when the constitution was written, there have only been 27 amendments, this being because they need 2/3 majority in Congress, and then ratified by 3/4 of state legislatures... something is telling me it is somewhat unlikely that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be able to run for President any time in the near future.

I hope not!

This talk started after the Governor election in CA and Republicans were looking down the road at a potentially higher office for Arnold.

The really BIG catch here is once that door is opened-anyone who becomes a naturalized citizen can run for president on any ticket they want! It wouldn't have to be a Democrat or Republican ticket! Which means they no longer have control of the candidates. Now will our elected leaders think about this when they are looking at the one little piece of the pie?

The shape has continually been allowed to alter. this variation and interpretation in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, could in basic terms ensue via amendments. i'm superb with the President being a organic American. The shape can get replaced in some tactics nonetheless. The President could have line-merchandise veto. There could be a provision for run-off elections if no candidate gets greater desirable than 50% of the vote. Birthright citizenship has outgrown that's objective and could be repealed or critically replaced.

They should change the constitution. To bar non-US born people from the presidency is anti-democratic, since it restricts the peoples' choice.

If the American people decide that Schwarzenegger is the man they want for president, it can't be right that they can't have him because of some arcane law.

Mind you, God help us all if the American people do decide that. He really is a first class idiot.

People like Arnold Schwarzenegger are too Liberal to ever get the Republican Presidential nomination. Liberals can't win the "Deep South" or "Middle American" states.

No need for this. With a population of 300 million, we should never have a problem finding qualified candidates. On the other hand, 2004 (Bush vs Kerry) was not a vintage year.

A lot less of a chance than overturning the Electoral College system of electing a President. In other words, less than a snowball's chances in Florida in August.

The USA will not change the constitution but do not give odds that the Republicans will not, Bush as already started.

Probably not. If they do anything like that, it would be that the canidate would need 2/3s of both the House and the Senate to be able to run.
