I would go for the natural option, why put drugs into your body if you deliver fast anyway! An induced labour is likely to be longer and MORE painful, not less.

I would rather have the quick labour than wait for induction to kick off .. i was induced with my 3rd baby at 41 weeks and was in established labour for 10 hours , it was painful but what labour isn`t . It depends on your circumstances also as you have other kids , you need to think what your plan would be should your labour be spontaneous , how quickly you could get the others organised and how far you are from the hospital etc , in your situation maybe you should go for the induction as that way you would be able to make sure your other children were settled with someone else for a little while and there would be less of a panic , just take a few mags to read etc and relax and let nature take its course ....
good luck & congrats

I have two kids and i was 10 days late with both my first labour was 27 hours and i had 3 pethidine and 4 bottles of gas and air and i had my waters broken which was not pleasant, but my second labour was very quick only a couple of hours and i had no time for any pain relief and although it was very traumatic she became distressed and they had to cut her out (luckily she was fine) i think that the recovery after my second was really quick as i wasn't groggy from all the drugs and back at home 6 hours later In my opinion i would let nature take its call and wait till the baby is ready

No, if your labor was only an hour I dont think that there will be any need for pain relief as it would be over before you know it. I think that the baby should come when its ready, I unfortunately had 2 c-sections, my first one was an emergency after 6 hours of labor and my second was planned because they wouldnt let me have a vbac.
Since you are lucky enough to have short labors I would just let nature take its course!

You don't mention why your 2nd labour was traumatic so I don't want to give wrong advice. I was induced and it was agony from the first contraction, no nice build up! Nothing would ease the pain either so only you will know whether it's worth getting it over with in an hour, or if your complications were too serious to risk that. Good luck anyway.

I have only given birth one time and I was induced (b/c my son was already an average of 8 lbs, I was a single mom, and the doctor wanted me home safe by the weekend) I was already 3 cm when she decided to induce me (I was 3 cm for a month).
Anyway, some of the stories I read on your answers are horrifying.
I was induced at 7 am and the doctor broke my water at 8- by 8:25 I had the epideral, and at 12:48pm (about 4 hours later) I had to LAUGH my son out, b/c the epideral worked so well- I could not feel to push. That afternoon is when I took my shower and I had food right after he was born...and home on the weekend.
I think it would be good to have an induction, b/c you will be able to have the other two kids taken care of, and everything planned out- you will know exactly when you are going to have the baby- good luck and congrats
PS- please don't listen to the horror stories, I did and was so freaked out, only to have to laugh my son out when it came down to it- in fact we have a pic of me at 10cm and fully ready to have him "pop" out and I was talking on my cell phone...

If you previous two were fast and traumatic, I would not be induced on my third. I have had four kids and two were induced. Not a good idea unless it is medically necessary. I went nuts and have never had such pain. It is like nothing you have ever experienced. Be thankful you go quick. Why don't you opt for an epideral instead. My second one I had an epideral with and it was great. Just ask your doctor. I vote against inducement for anyone unless it is necessary

I had an induction at 39 weeks...I was given the prostaglandin gel twice (8 hours apart) and then 2 days later finally given the pitocin drip to get things started becasue the gel only made my water broke...the first contraction hit me like a ton of bricks...but I was in the right place. Teh contractions with pitocin do hit hard..but you can get pain medication right away.

I think you should go for the induction and it is not painful , i have been there done that , you will tell the doctor you wants meds before the induction happens so that as soon as your water is broken or the plutosen is administered you can get the epidural if you want to , take the induction !

Personally, I wouldn't want to be induced. I've had it both ways & the induction hurt a lot worse than the natural contractions. Waaaay worse. Let the baby come when it's ready.
