i fasted last month for religious reasons. i checked with my doc and obgyn first - they said it wud be ok as long as i felt well and ate NUTRITIOUS HEALTHY foods, and rested properly. i ate a good breakfast with my folic acid, and when i broke my fast i made sure i had fruits, vegs and plenty of water.
I think the physical dangers outweigh the physical benefits.
i missed 4 days out of the month tho - 2 bcos of morning sickness and 2 bcos of low blood pressure.
i went for an ultrasound 3 days before the fast started (10 weeks) and then 3 days after the fast ended (15 weeks). baby was fine, all organs looked good.
remember, if ur fasting bcos ur muslim, fasting is allowed for pregnant (or breastfeeding) women only if there is no danger to the mother or baby. (e.g. history of miscarriage, high blood pressure, diabetes)
each case is different. check with ur docs first. my cousin stopped fasting halfway thru the month when she found out she was pregnant, but she had a miscarriage last year and has been struggling to conceive.

Depends how many days and what you plan on eating in the evening. Your baby will get all the nutrients from your body first, so if you start suffering, your baby probably hasn't. I would discuss it with your ob/gyn. They will tell you how much "fasting" is safe and for how long you can do it without your child suffering. In the first trimester, you should be able to do daylight fasting without problems. I wouldn't do 24 hour fasting though. You do have to drink though - maybe water will be alright.

I seriously thought if I didn't go crazy during my first trimester, that I would die pondering it. lol I slept all the time my first trimester and literally NOTHING made me happy. I didnt want to get up to even shower or do laundry or anything. Trust me hon, wait it out for a couple more weeks...it will slowly subside. I got hooked on sprite because it was the only thing that could help my stomach. After you get past this, you will feel AWESOME....until you hit about 38 weeks! haha Remember...you can take Tylenol and even Tylenol PM...if that helps any.

If your calorie intake is less than 600 calories a day you can SERIOUSLY jeopardize you baby's health.
Even in religions where fasting is common they do not require pregnant women to uphold the fast. I can not think of any good reason or benefit for fasting during a pregnancy.
Maybe you need to talk to your doctor, maybe you have an eating disorder if you are thinking that fasting is a good idea during a pregnancy.

First of all, why would you want to fast? There is no benefit to that all. You will be harming your unborn baby. The baby is developing very fast at this time and so you will be eating for you and your baby. So if you do not eat anything, you are starving your baby. It is dangerous.

Not good at all. Why would you deprive your baby of nutrients for him to grow? Doing this in the first trimester can physically and mentally harm the baby. Your baby may come out with disabilities. Do you want to live with this all your life? I wouldn't want to so go eat and eat your heart out girl. This is the only time we can eat in our lives. Enjoy and live it up.

there are no benefits of fasting during pregnancy. besides the defintion for fasting you gave is incorrect. fasting involves night hours as well. if you want to fast for religious purposes i would strongly recommend no more than a 24 hour fast, but really you should wait until after you deliver. it is dangerous to deprive your fetus and your own body nutrition during pregnancy.

You have to get enough calories in order to provide food and nutrients to you baby. The first trimester is the worst time to think about fasting because it is the most important stage of your pregnancy, risk of miscarriage is at the highest. you don't want to do anything that would encourage miscarriage. I would not advise.

You shouldn't fast during this time, because you need as much nutrients for your developing baby.

Not a good idea. Your baby is in a very important stage right now and definitely can't take the trauma of fasting. Don't do it!
