This is a place for my usual statement that our social system is screwed.
Children should be considered a gift from God. And yes I said God. Not that people start out as children for the egos of their parents or any other negative reason. The reason why I say they should be a gift from God is three fold. 1) If you have them, you are given the opportunity to create a safe haven for a newly emerging individual who to start has limitless potential. 2) As much as we have evolved as humans we will never have complete control over whether or not they exist. 3) Each of us were in this exact same position at on point.
The problem isn't the children it's the so call adults. Not only are people not considered adults if they are without children but in some places women aren't considered fully developed if they haven't reproduced. This is problematic for two reasons. 1) Some people are physically unable to have children for one reason or another and 2) the idea is imposing a particular social structure.
It's like the old math. Some things people hold on to because the ideas make them feel safe.
As for the movies, that's another problem. I think that when people are angry that someone doesn't want to have children what they are really saying is that they are disappointed that the other person doesn't want to prove that they want to be with them for an indefinite period of time. Plus, not so long ago it was prevalent that sex was for procreation only. Any other sex was just a nasty beastly act that deserves ridicule and scorn. Wait people are still scorned for having sex "out of wedlock". These ideas were probably just integrated into our consciousness to keep politicians in office by keeping the society stable.
What the world is saying is that diversity is inherently wrong, and only a small group knows what's best!

Please don't ever have a child until you are ready to accept the responsibility that comes with being a parent and be willing to do always what is best for that child. Note, however, I said "ready to accept the responsibility" not that you had to be already responsible and mature. It is true that being a parent, if you accept and work at perfecting that role, will change you in ways that will enlarge your personal universe and make you a fuller, if not better, person. And you will come to see all of life differently. Becoming a parent will change you in ways you presently cannot begin to imagine. Neither I nor anyone else can impart to you what this experience entails. It must be experienced to be understood.

Its a need or desire to pass on your genes, wisdom, heritage and parts of yourself to the next generation. Not everyone has that desire and that's okay. You can still be a parent without being a parent. Mentoring, teaching, babysitting, being an aunt or uncle are all roles that are strong influences in the younger generation's lives. People without children are equally important to society and should not be outcasts. What about people who are unable to have children? Are they considered immature? That is an interesting take on people without children. But seems quite innaccurate.

I think it is delusional to think that squeezing something out of our bodies make us more mature. Because with wisdom, maturity arrives and anyone, including roaches can have children; its not that hard to make one. As far as women who chastise men for not wanting to "start a family" maybe the man just see that as an added responsibility to his life that he doesn't need right now. I am a woman and a child will disrupt what I have going on right now. I love children to death, they definitely are the future if they do right, but having children is a Huge step.

Having them because of pressure?....No WAY!
That is one the biggest responsibilities ever! And men or women should not be considered immature for NOT having children....In fact.....putting off having a family because you recognize you are not ready is a very wise/mature decision.

You want kids is the only real reason, i think. I don't think anyone else should have any say in it, no matter what. Who cares that China is overpopulated? It can be horrible for kids to have no siblings!

There are pieces of joy that you need to care of them until they are mature enough to take care of themselves. If you want a child, then make sure you want it for the right reasons not for anything financially nor obstructively.
