it's better to turn on ur computer and keep it on as long as possible. i was not talking about u must keep ur computer working verytime even when u dont use the computer. the computer will have longer lifetime if you dont shutdown ur computer regularly, because the hard drive will have to work from the beginning eachtime you turn on the computer, it has to read from the first sector, it causes to the sooner damage of ur hard drive. but when you dont use the computer in one night, you can set the computer in hibernate mode or standby mode. by doing this, you still keep very data in ur computer safe and no hamrs to your computer. sometimes, it the computer slows down, try to restart it and after restarting, it will work faster. remember to go to the power management in control panel, set up the monitor should be turned off after 5-10 minutes in order to protect your monitors from dead pixel and make it have longer lifetime

You can leave a computer on 24/7. Saying that, there are two reasons why I do not leave my computer on. First, because I am not rich enough and prefer to keep my electric bill down. ;) Second is that even if you are running behind a firewall, your computer is more accessable to a hacker when it is on then when it is off.
However, you want to turn the monitor off. Think of your monitor like your T.V. The tube (or LCD screen or Whatever you have) wears out over time. so the more time you leave it on, the sooner it will wear out.

It is not a good thing to leave your computer on all the time. First of all it is an incredible waste of electricity. Just think of all the people who do that! If they all shut off their computers at night the amount of electricity used would go way down.
Also, I knew a person who did leave his computer on all the time and literally never shut it down. After a few months of this his computer nearly caught on fire. Smoke was literally coming out of the side of the computer. The fan that keeps the computer from over heating broke from being over used and so the computer was no longer being cooled. So it's not really good to do that unless you want to buy a new computer.

The computer itself should stay on 24/7; rebooting occasionally (once a month or so, or when Windows updates requires it). As for the monitor itself, keeping it on 24/7 will not "preserve" it. If it's already shorting out, it's going to short whether it's on or not. Keeping it on will only wear it out faster.

All monitors have a life span.If yours is playing up and you are not downloading anything it makes sense to turn it off. Save money and the planet at the same time. Failing that buy another monitor.

I keep my PC on 24/7 as i too was also told that turning your PC on and off does more harm than good as you're rebooting it each time you switch it on. I just switch my monitor off before i go to bed. I know its not enviromentally friendly but i try extra hard to compensate for it in other areas, eg: recycling, i run a fully recycling household.

Loads of people above are saying that its better for the computer's parts to leave it on. stfu, like you'll have the same computer for 10 years. Turning it off every day will not do any damage to it. Not for over 10 years at least.
What a clever idea to leave the computer on (for no reason) and waste electricity. Brilliant idea!

Yes, you can leave it on - just put on a screen saver, and adjust your power settings - you can actually shut down the hard drive after so many minutes of inactivity, etc - to help conserve energy.
It's actually better to leave your computer on at all times. It's less stress on the electronics within the case.

Yes you can leave it on, but you should have it set to go into standby mode. Just have it click on when you touch the keyboard or mouse. You should do a shut down 1 or 2 times a month.
