after many years without holding any meaningful job for any meaningful amount of time?

I have 2 and a half years of college under my belt but I'm still unsure of that will help me (if any) with getting a job that will be good enough for me to support my child.

Any thoughts on this matter?

My wife was in the same boat except for the divorced part. She went back to college to get her two years in though.

Try going to a temp agency. They have companies approach them for permanent positions. Many companies find it easier to go this route because you can 'try out' many new employees without hiring. Just give the agency an idea of how much you want and what type of work. They do the work for you.

My wife was hired on permanent 2 years ago. She now makes more than me! I love her(more now) :-)

Yes.. been there, only I had two kids. See what credits of yours are still valid. You may be able to get a job that will allow you to continue and finish your degree. It is not going to be easy by any means, but you should get some help with your child support, if you get any, and there are programs out there for single parents. Check with your local university or college and see if they offer any programs like this. Mine also paid for child care while I was in school and helped with grants for book and tuition. I did have to get help with housing, but that was only for the first year and I have done just fine ever since. Good Luck to you.

With 2.5 years of college it's start. There are programs for women to get back into the mainstream again, in the larger cities. You have a pc, that's a start, let your fingers do some walking.

What were you good in, maybe if you can get in you can also start with a few credits in the local community college and get back in the groove. It won't be easy but, you have to start somewhere.

Ask a professor at your community college if they can recommend any jobs that you could possibly apply for. If not, start off small at an appliance store or something.

I would suggest working for a temp agency as someone mentioned in a previous post and going back to school at night or on weekends (if you can).
