There are some good answers and some smart *** answers. But as people have stated, it is most likely because a non-system disk is in a drive. What this means is a computer usually has a sequence that it follows to find out where your operating system is, or where it should boot (start up) from. In some cases it checks the cd drives or floppy drives before the hard drive (this sequence can be changed but only by people with good knowledge of computers). So if you leave a game or simple data disk in a drive it sees the disk and tries to boot from it. If that disk isn't "bootable" or a startup disk it will give you that error. So while some people say to put in the system recovery disk, this is a big NO NO!!! because you may recover a system that doesn't need recovering and then lose lots of stuff. First check that no other media is in the computer, be it disks, flash cards, photo cards, anything. Then start the computer. If you still get the error then it isn't reading the hard drive and you may need to recover. Good luck.

There are two main possibilites.... either there is already a disk in the boot drive of the computer (could be a floppy or a cd, even a usb drive) that isn't bootable, or the operating system is damaged. In most cases, it means that a disk got left in, and the computer can't load from it. Find the disk, remove it, and then try restarting. This may solve the problem.

A program (application or operating system), whatever it is you trying to execute, is requesting to insert the system disk, as the program most likely is not completely installed or is missing system files.
Yes, the possibility is that there is a disk in the drive that it is trying to read to boot up. Take the disk out and try again.

It means that the computer can not find the proper boot files to load your operating system.
This could happen when a floppy drive is in the drive and the computer is setup to try and boot from a floppy disk first.
If tghere is no floppy disk in the drive then your hard drive is dead or has a virus that prevents reading the system files. This would mean bring it in to be repaired.

There's little pieces of hardware that you can buy to connect a hard-drive to a USB port on a working computer; Google for "IDE to USB adapter", or replace IDE with SATA if your dad's computer uses this type of HDD, and you'll have thousands of results to choose from... Just buy one (cheap as peanuts), remove the HDD from the tower box and connect it to another working computer's USB port. This second computer will recognise the HDD as a USB mass storage device, which you can navigate just like a normal external HDD or USB flash drive. Good luck.

It is trying to boot up from a non-bootable floppy disk. Remove the floppy disk and restart.
