It depends on how many slots you have for memory. If you have 2 sticks of 128 Mb to make 256 Mb currently in there and have no more slots, then you cannot combine. If you have 1 stick of 256 Mb and 1 512 Mb stick and 2 slots, then you can combine them, just plug in the new memory. If you have 2 sticks of 256 Mb to make the 512 Mb of RAM, then that's all you can use. What do you have?

Sounds like you have a total of 256 ddr and want too add a 512 am I right.

Eithe go too a dell place where they do it or if its past its warranty then put it in the slot by the 256 ram because I am assumming you have 2 slots but still this is speculation.

By the way the guy who answered first what language you speaking in.

Your 256Mb is probably on a single stick. There are at least two memory slots on your computer.
Open the case, find the memory slot (there should be two, long slots, with a memory stick inserted in one of them. They should have a little plastic clip on each end of the slot). Open the plastic clips wide, insert the chip (it only goes in one way... make sure the slots on the chip match the slot on the board). Push in the chip until both plastic clips "snap". Make sure the clips are tight.
Close the case and restart your computer. You're done.
