Hi, My boyfriend is a basketball fan, and for his birthday I want to get him good tickets to a game. We live near Boston or New York City, so preferably home games for the Knicks or the Celtics. He is a fan of LeBron James, but I'm not sure if a Cavaliers/Knicks game will be good? Some other teams I'm looking at are Miami and the Bulls... someone please help me out! I'm not a basketball fan at all, and I just want tickets to a great game that would make him really happy! =)

First of all, you are very thoughtful to get tickets for your boyfriend. I am sure he would be pleased if you got him Celtics-Cavs or Knicks-Cavs game. I would try to get a Cavaliers game for either the Knicks or Boston. Getting a good ticket may not be easy..so I would choose the game that has the best seating and value. Any team playing the Cavs will most likely have a sold out game so I wouldn't be too picky if it were Celtics or Knicks. If sold out, you can check third party vendors or eBay.

Hint: Sometimes, seats behind the basket are the cheapest lower level seats and you can still be up close. I get those via season tickets. But you can still get them individually and I find they are your "best bang for your buck".

Comparing Knicks and Celtics:

Atmosphere:
I have been to a Knicks game and the atmosphere is pretty nice. You can see Spike Lee there courtside. You can use the subway to get there without driving if you want. Parking is expensive though. I haven't been to Celtics game, so I can't say much about them though.

Team Quality:
Knicks have a pretty awful team. They have talent with Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, and Eddy Curry, but they don't work well together. I expect a pretty bad season again this year. So as far as a competitive game, the Cavs will probably win. For the Celtics, they have Paul Pierce, who is their main star. They are not a good team either and will probably lose to the Cavs. Believe me, even if the Cavs blowout the Celtics or Knicks..it is worth the price of admission to see Lebron James play. I saw him blow out the Warriors and he had a triple double..it was amazing.

Other Games:
The Heat are the defending Champions so it would be a good game to watch with Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. The Bulls are also a good team, but to be honest..they aren't that exciting to watch..they have a lot of team players but it won't be that flashy. Another team to keep in mind is Dallas. Dallas was in the Finals last year and play an faster pace game which is exciting. They are led by Dirk Nowitzki. For the Dallas game since they are in the Western Conference, there might be only one game played by Celtics or Knicks..so demand will be high. But, I think it will be worth it.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Honey, I don't know if any Knicks game will be good this year! If Lebron is his favorite player then yes go ahead and get him tickets to that game. The first home game with the Cavs is November 13.

Personally I would rather go to see the Celtics. They are a better team and would be a better ball game. They play the Cavs at home on 1-3-2007.

I think your best bet would be the January 3 game between the Celtics and the Cavaliers. The other teams are great, but if Lebron is his favorite I would stick with the Cavs. Stay away from the Knicks, they are going to be awful again this year unless Isaiah Thomas can work some sort of magic on his team.

The Bulls vs. the Knicks will be an awesome game, because the Knicks have a few Bulls outcasts on their team (Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford) who almost certainly try to play their best basketball of the season, and Chicago looks like one of the sharpest teams in the league right now after routing the defending champion Heat by 42 points last night...should be a great game. Not to mention the added subplot that it was Isiah's bad trade with Chicago that has led to some of Chicago's success (with the draft of Tyrus Thomas) coupled with the fact that they also have the right to swap picks with the Knicks next year as a result of that trade, look for a very, very competitive game...that trade could be the gift that keeps on giving for the Bulls.

The Cavs game would be good too probably, but they really only have one good player, and that's LeBron. It might not be as good a game as Chicago.

As for the Celtics, you couldn't pay me to go to one of their games, they're awful!

Well i dont know about boston but i know i have been to many knick games and can tell you that parking and stuff is really expensive like 35$ to park for the game... if that is not an object then i would pick a knicks game and take him to see knicks/cavs since he likes lebron james... dont get him tickets to see the bulls they are not what they used to be..im sure he would much rather see lebron then ben gordon... i would go for

1. knicks/cavs
2. knicks/miami
3. knicks/phoenix
4. knicks/dallas

those would be the 4 teams i would looks at if i were you

well if he is a fan of lebron james then a cleveland cavaliers game would probably make him happy. boston and new york are both shitty teams, the only difference is that new york usually has more stars but they always underperform, so whatever team comes to visit would be who you would go for. LIke if your boyfriend likes shaq and dwade like most people do then do a heat game....but as for whether to do nyc or boston....its a tossup so just pick the city you like best....nyc probably has better arena and more stuff to do before/after the game.
