I've always found things that aren't intentionall supposed to be terrifying the most scary of all. So programmes like Jam and anything by Chris Morris, usually terrifies me.
As for films, The Wicker Man (the original) was brilliant, as was the US remake of The Grudge, Halloween. The Exorcist, especially the scenes where there are all almost subliminal flashes, like when the priest sees his mother coming out of the subway and you see the face of 'evil' flash briefly or whatever it is :-).
There is a film called Carnival of Souls, an old black and white film about a woman who is in a car crash and then sees this face for the duration of the film, until the true meaning of it is revealed at the final moment. Great stuff.
You can't beat a good horror film, it's just a shame that so often film directors pander to the masses and always feel the need to show the monster or the cause of the horror. Nothing is more terrifying that your own imagination.

Mines an oldie but its great "Lord of Illusions". Its a Clive Barker film. "House on Haunted Hill", early version is best, hung everthing on atmosphere than FX." Silent Hill" is just fantastic. "Skined Deep" for being the worst ever horror ever made that its a really must to see, truth."Tenebrae" for bloodlust. There are so many, but really. see skined deep its just really bad/crap acting & story, you won't stop laughing.

I love Evil Dead also......
creepy and very low budget, which makes it work.
the scenes where the camera is moving fast, as if it was a spirit in first person view, and running, at the time was revolutionary, and B-movie actor Bruce Cambell was the star in it.

I'm not really sure what the point of these kinds of questions is. I mean, what do you get out of knowing what 10 random peoples' favorite horror movie is? If you're looking for a good rental title, that's one thing, but then, why wouldn't you just ask for suggestions in your question?
