Just load up your proggy in WinXP and give it a try. WinXP is very forgiving and may be able to output in correct format without any outside help.
You may also get some good results by loading the 'generic' printer driver and assigning it to your inkjet.

If you're doing this with Windows 98 you should have no problem doing it with Windows XP. There is a chance that the DOS program won't run on XP but most likely it will - they are pretty simple. A lot of times with DOS programs you can just copy the program directory to another PC and it will still run - can't do that with newer programs.

Just remember that DOS needs to print to an LPT port (LPT1, LPT2, ect). It doesn't like USB or UNC/network paths. So try to stick with a printer that uses a regular parallel printer cable.

Depending on what program it is. Most DOS programs will not run in a 32bit Windows XP environment. Otherwise, locate a Windows 98 driver for the printer and print it from the 98 machine.
