Well I'll second the Ad Aware by Lavasoft. But, I'm not sure if it is still free, but Microsoft had a spyware removal program that I downloaded a while ago from windows.com

It was a beta version (test version) but what was great about it was that since it had windows code it could shut down spyware that was running and then remove it. This is useful as you will see lots of stuff that Adaware will say cannot be removed because it is still running and even on re-boot it still has trouble removing it. The windows version didn't.

In my spare time I test antivirus and antispyware programs to see if they perform as claimed. An also to see if there is any hidden embedded adware, trojans and spyware installed in their program or the wizard installer they use to guide you through the installation.

In my own computers I use http://www.lavasoft.com Download their free home personal use. Ad-Aware Se Personal. (This company is out of Sweden and has been around long before anybody ever even thought of adware in your pc.

Or you can download from http://www.emsisoft.com (This company is out of Austria). Their free version of A2Squared Anti-Malware V2 is an excellent free program that find adware, trojans, malware, spyware and will also protect you from rogue dialers.

They will ask you for your email address so that they can send you a free registration key. The paid version has an excellent background scanner that really works in realtime to catch and destroy any malware before it hits your system. Plus automatic updates. Otherwise the free version is the same you may have to perform manual updates.

Ad-Aware Se Personal does not give you automatic updates, but will give you a pop-up advising you if you have not check for updates past 15 or 20 days.

Use both and they are free of any embedded malware.

LIked http://www.superantispyware.com Found their program has adware embedded in their software. This free program does an excellent job in finding the very hard spyware, just not sure I want their embedded adware that is hidden in their program.

Here you are:

Pick and choose at least 2 from the list below. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.

Spybot Search and Destroy:

Ewido:

Adaware SE:

A-Squared:

Windows Defender (Beta 2):

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
................................................

And to protect your computer from ever getting infected with spyware in the first place, you can use these 2 freebies:

SpywareBlaster:

then you definitely have not been looking very no longer common. have you ever tried Malwarebytes? Adaware? Spybot? AVG loose? Or any type of alternative loose antivirus/antimalware products on the marketplace? attempt Malwarebytes.
